ROAD CONDITIONS UPDATE - MACROSSAN BRIDGE AT SELLHEIM REMAINS OPEN

Update as at Sunday, 30 March 2025 at 12:10pm

Council wishes to advise that following the latest Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) report the Burdekin River at Sellheim is steady, below the MINOR flood level.

The road remains open from Charters Towers to Townsville (Flinders Highway).

All future updates will be updated in the ROAD CONDITION UPDATE on Charters Towers Regional Council's page..

The Charters Towers Local Disaster Management Group is waiting for a further weather briefing from BoM this morning. The Macrossan Bridge at Sellheim (Charters Towers to Townsville) remains open at this stage.

ROAD CONDITIONS UPDATE - MACROSSAN BRIDGE AT SELLHEIM

Council wishes to advise that the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) reports that the Burdekin River at Sellheim is rising and is expected to go over the Macrossan Bridge by mid-morning tomorrow (Saturday, 29 March 2025).

Motorists planning to travel between Charters Towers and Townsville should do so before this time to avoid disruptions.

🚧 UPDATE ON ROAD REPAIRS IN CHARTERS TOWERS 🚧

Council understands the frustration caused by road conditions following recent flooding. Council appreciates all reports of potholes and damage, and is working as quickly as possible and prioritising areas where roads are severely impassable.

Currently, Council has inspected approximately 37% of our extensive 3808km road network. It's a challenging task to assess and prioritise repairs to ensure safety for all road users.

Emergent Works are underway to restore access and ensure public safety. This includes immediate actions like debris clearing and temporary repairs in severely affected areas. Please bear with us as we work through these critical repairs.

We kindly ask for your patience and understanding during this time. Rest assured, the safety and longevity of Charters Towers’ regions road infrastructure remain our top priority.
