A lap of ‘the block’ before anyone is up to clear the mind before the packing begins.

Dad thinks he is in Australia (I assume because I’m with him) and was stuck in a bit of a loop when we got there, I think he just couldn’t understand why we were all together. Had his neighbours come round to help ground him which helped.

This morning we’re off to Lauzerte for a cafe au lait before the packing begins.

After 30 something hours in the air, over 17,000km, and a two hour train ride, around 160km, I got to Dover and ran a pitiful 20ks.
I landed at 4.30am and have managed to power through the day, had a massage, had a meeting with the Discharge team for mum, (she isn’t being discharged, she’s going back to the medical ward) and now I’m utilising the hotel spa/sauna before another massive travel day tomorrow.

Had my final Aussie sunrise for a couple of weeks (it wasn’t this one, it was cloudy and rainy today) as I head to the UK and Europe on a mission for both parents.

My dad was diagnosed with Dementia a few weeks ago and it is no longer safe for him to live by himself in France. It’s a ridiculously complicated and dramatic story, maybe I should write a book about it. He needs to return to England before the French welfare system takes total control over him and I am unable to move him.

My mum has been critically ill in hospital, she’s now been considered to be lacking mental capacity so I will@meet with hospital staff and social services when I land to discuss options. Again, a lot of history and movie worthy drama there too.

As I sit on the plan, ready to start a 30hr journey to Heathrow with a knot in my stomach, I am so grateful to my and my boys for being so understanding of my need to go, and to my amazing friends for all their counsel and offers of help to Matt whilst I’m away. I wouldn’t have survived the last few weeks, battling language barriers and time zone conflicts without you all.

💔Maggie💔

My wild, goofy, love bug, brown eyed girl is sleeping forever.

I found her yesterday morning. She was gone.

Exactly 2 years ago I brought Maggie home from the airport, rescued from Regional Victoria where she had never been inside, had never had a bed, barely knew her name and certainly had no idea about how to be on a lead or any commands.

She was wild. She was independent but she instantly chose us. She found her home. She loved to go out but she couldn’t wait to get back to her home.

Her front teeth top and bottom were completely worn down to the gums, she was 5kgs underweight and she was in a constant state of fight or flight.

She came to her forever home where she found nothing but love.

Her brown eyes gazed into yours with what I can only describe as gratitude.

She had no concept of personal space, would just climb onto you and paw you in the face until you gave her attention and cuddles.

Her tongue was too big for her mouth so it poked out when she slept.

Her ear floof was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen.

I was so proud when her coat grew back to the point where I could brush her. She LOVED being brushed.

We took her to the beach and taught her that water was fun.

She picked up random pieces of clothing from the floor nd ran through the house with them when she was excited.

She would bark when Mollie would bark, even if she didn’t know why they were barking.

I just want to hear her feet on the floorboards. Here her coming down the hall when she was worried she was missing out on something.

My heart is utterly broken. She deserved so much more love, so many more years of cuddles.

I don’t know what happened and why she chose now to leave. But I wish she hadn’t.

What a week!

Quite literally 0kms run, over 1000km driven, 17hr days, over 30,000 images taken and a handful of hours slept. A couple of glorious hikes up Mt Tomaree to bookend 8 days of shooting a Range Rover event for and her epic team.
