Embracing the unfamiliar is part of what makes Audio Production something I have loved for more than 35 years. My recent imaging project for SBS South Asian provided a unique set of challenges that pushed my creative boundaries. From editing music in several foreign languages to understanding cultural nuances across different South Asian provinces, every step was a learning curve. Additionally, working with foreign language voiceovers for the various language programs was an intriguing task that added layers of complexity to the project.

Despite these challenges, the feedback has been incredibly rewarding. Brett Smith, Channel Manager at SBS South Asian, said, "This package sounds amazing! Awesome job!" It’s feedback like this that reminds me why I love doing what I do.

For over a decade, I've had the privilege of shaping the sound for Singapore's ONE FM. On April 8, they launched a fresh new sound, and I was again at the helm of their imaging revamp!

This opportunity was special not just for its creative challenges but also because it was the first time I got to work on an Imaging Project with the legendary Andrew Peters in our 30-year friendship. AP isn’t just a phenomenal voice talent; he’s also my mate and co-host on the Pro Audio Suite Podcast alongside George "The Tech" Witham and Robert Marshall.

The chemistry was off the charts and I think the results really show it. We had an absolute blast, and I can’t wait for everyone to hear the new sound of ONE FM. Tune in and turn it up!

13/03/2024

Hey guys, Robbo here! 🎤 Ever feel like picking the right software for your voice-over work is like trying to find a needle in a digital haystack? Well, although I've been a Pro Tools grouper for almost as long as there's been a Mac in my studio, I do love to tinker with less familiar platforms. So I decided to share some of my discoveries along the way.
I’ve put together a blog all about choosing the perfect Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) for your home voice (or podcast) studio. Whether you’re just starting out or you’re in the market for something more advanced, I’ve covered options from the free and easy, like Audacity, to the full-blown pros, like Pro Tools. And, because love to keep things interesting, I've thrown in a curveball. While I'm not going to give it away here (you'll have to read the blog for that) it’s a ripper piece of software that might just be the easy-going DAW you were looking for.
Choosing the right DAW can make all the difference in your voice-over and podcast work. So, why not swing by the blog and see if I can’t help make that choice a bit easier?

The Sennheiser 416 has become an industry-standard tool. Being a “shotgun” mic (or in tech terms a super-cardioid) the microphone is extremely sensitive in a very narrow field. For this reason, it is often used on film sets where the mic needs to be a little farther away from the actor’s mouth (so it’s not in the frame), and the production team wants to capture the actor’s voice without capturing background noise in the room. These qualities also make it extremely versatile for use in home voiceover studios!

But who first decided a Shotgun would be great for Voice Over, and why is it now an industry standard?
