Protonitazene, a potentially deadly synthetic opioid, has been detected for the first time in South Australia.

Two people are being treated at the Royal Adelaide Hospital this week.

The cases suggest that Protonitazene may currently be contaminating other non-opiate illicit drugs, such as m**hamphetamine.

You cannot tell if drugs contain Protonitazene just by looking at it.

Anyone who has taken a drug and does not feel right should present to their closest Emergency Department immediately.
