The world is certainly facing some pretty serious humanitarian crises at the moment. Cyclone Gabrielle has caused unprecedented flooding and damage across parts of New Zealand’s North Island, leaving the country in a national state of emergency. The earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria have taken the lives of over 50,000 people and left up to 26 million in need of assistance, prompting the World Health Organisation to launch the largest rescue operation of its kind in the organisation’s 75-year history. Meanwhile, the war wages on in Ukraine as the country marks 12 months since Russia first launched its full-scale invasion.

There is no doubt that the need is great. Wherever or however you would like to respond, there are pathways in the March edition of Rotary Down Under.

This month we look at how our clubs and districts are empowering our next generation of leaders. Be it through dedicated Rotary programs like Youth Exchange and Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), or by supporting existing youth organisations and agencies, supporting and developing our youth remains at the very heart of Rotary.

We also head to the south of Western Australia to delve into the good work of the smaller sister of Rotary’s service in the west. Encompassing some of the state’s most iconic vistas and stunning tourist destinations, District 9465 may account for less than a quarter of Rotary’s turf in the west, but what they lack in geographical size they make up for in heart, soul and service.

Oh wow! What an awesome surprise team iMedia received on the weekend when we attended the Rotary District 9640 Conference.

Rhys (Art Director) was presented with the Excellence in Service to Humanity Award in recognition of his creative and untiring efforts in communicating Rotary’s avenues of service in serving humanity.

And Meagan (Editorial Director) was made a Paul Harris Fellow in appreciation of tangible and significant assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations among peoples of the world.
