The Southern Cassowary (Casuarius), calling out through dense forest in North Queensland, Australia - with its low 24Hz drone.
These deep calls carry a significant distance in rainforest, and are an effective way for Cassowaries to communicate with one another.

Thankful that today's client has an air-conditioned indoor location with a kickass view to boot.
Don't think I could have handled shooting outdoors in this 40 degree Melbourne heat.

Shooting at the Park Hyatt again today. Feels like only yesterday that I was last here.
Oh wait... that is because it was only yesterday that I was here for a different event.
Next time I should just ask for a room overnight to save on the travel time. 😀

Happy New Year to all!
How hectic has it been so far?! Just go go go...
Taking some time out between shoots to smell the roses, and all the other flowers here at the Botanical Gardens, Williamstown 😀
Oh, and though I look serious in the second pic, I am really dancing feverishly on the inside 😉

Finally found the time to catch up with the Pixelife Studio Crew.
It is hard work to be social when you are a photographer/videographer - but if you bring a camera with you, you can just about justify anything :)

The most common reason children and young people enter foster care is due to child abuse and neglect, parental substance abuse, parental mental health issues and domestic violence.
Can you help make a difference?
If you can provide a safe and stable home environment for a child or young person, you have the potential to be a foster carer. Learn more about fostering wi...

New library being constructed in Lilydale? Of course we are there!
Spent the day onsite, documenting all the lovely features before public access.

Big day yesterday with some even bigger toys!
We have always wondered what it would be like to sit in a giant crane and move it around - well, we no longer wonder :)
These machines are scary big! The Clevis hooks are almost as big a car.

Downtown Asakasa, Japan - Mobile Phone VS DSLR ;)
Some people ask us, is there really that much difference between using a mobile phone versus a DSLR? Well... judge for yourself.

‘Kinkakuji ‘
During the Kamakura period (1185-1333), this land was the site of a villa of the aristocrat Saionji Kintsune, known as Kitayamadai. During the Muromachi period (1392-1573), however, it caught the attention of the third Ashikaga sh**un Yoshimitsu (1358-1408), who took over the site from the Saionji family in order to build his own villa, which he called Kitayamadono.
Kinkakuji, also known as the Golden Pavilion, is a Zen temple in Northern Kyoto whose top two floors are completely covered in gold leaf.
It was previously known as Rokuonji, whilst the temple was the retirement villa of the sh**un Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, and was built to echo the extravagant Kitayama culture that developed in the wealthy aristocratic circles of Kyoto during Yoshimitsu's times.
It became a Zen temple of the Rinzai sect after Yoshimitsu’s death in 1408, and was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.

Did you know that Pixelife Studio also provides mediography training and coaching to individuals as well as companies?
We can pretty much train you to use a camera, process images, use a video camera, utilise sliders and tripods, edit footage, colour grade, audio design, build your own studio or podcast facility – you name it, we can train you in it.
Here is a video filmed and produced by a five year old, after only two hours of training. The only thing we really took control of was sourcing the audio, and putting the audio track to the video. Really – we make it that easy!
Best of all, our trainers are qualified, so you know you are being trained by a professional.
If you want to discuss your personal or organisational training needs, please reach out and one of our friendly staff will assist you.

So it is you baby girl's birthday, and you want to enjoy the occasion and not have to carry a giant camera - but a GoPro just won't cut it. So you rig up a micro-cine camera especially for the occasion 😀
I know, I know, we have been very quiet of late - but in our defence, it has been a very busy few weeks.
And for whoever came up with the misconception that you need 8 hours of sleep a night, they were obviously not a photographer or videographer - we function (well kind of) with only 4 hours a night.
We promise to update again with exciting stuff real soon (maybe even run one of our free photo/video walks in Melbourne), but until then here is a snippet of something that really tastes delicious :)

Evan Sycamnias - Founder of Pixelife Photography & Videography
Evan Sycamnias who was first introduced to photography when he was only 8 years old. By age 9, he had made his own camera and was processing black and white prints in a small makeshift studio. By age 13, much to his exhilaration, he was bestowed the family’s Agfa Isola I, a medium format film camera (120mm) made in Germany (below) – which he still possess to this day.
For Evan, photography (and later videography) was a way to capture breath-taking moments and present them in a form that remained timeless, allowing others to experience events as though they had been there for themselves.
For more than 10 years Evan was a part of the exciting world of high speed off-road racing, where he spent a large portion of his time managing ‘Team MudRhino’ – a creative group with 15 members who produced more than 45 full length DVDs. These productions were sold globally, and earned the group several awards – including the prestigious CCDA ‘Media of the Year Award’ in 2008.
In 2016, his attention was turned to landscape photography, and he spent a large proportion of his time travelling the globe to remote locations including the Himalayas, India, China, Egypt, South and North America, and Singapore. Many of his images received awards and recognition, and some went on to be featured in magazines.
Today Evan spends his time mentoring aspiring photographers; overseeing one of Australia’s largest photography forums; consulting with small businesses on building social media content; undertaking photography of private functions such as engagements and weddings; and most importantly he seeks to inspire his own children to find their inner artistry with a lens.
