This week on The I in Us, Paul and Little Jase look forward to welcoming Simone-lisa Anderson to the JOY airwaves.

Simone-lisa is the parent of an intersex person, the Intersex Peer Support Australia (IPSA) Tasmanian peer support representative and IPSA Parent representative for Australia, a co-investigator with Interlink (offering peer support and counselling to intersex Australians), a member of the Tasmanian Whole of Government, Department of Health, and Department of Justice LGBTIQA+ reference groups, a founding member of the Restricted Medical Treatment Assessment Board under the ACT’s Variation in S*x Characteristics (Restricted Medical Treatment) Act 2023, a co-designer of the Victorian Intersex Health and Wellbeing Project and, the designer and project officer of “Better Lives” an intersex specific program run by “Working It Out”, Tasmania's only dedicated LGBTIQA+ support, advocacy and education service.

Simone-lisa will share her experiences raising her child and about her tireless work as an advocate, educator, and peer support worker. So tune into The I in Us this Wednesday 7-8pm AEST for what is sure to be an informative and thought-provoking show.

Waking up in Djilang (Geelong) this morning to a bright, beautiful, sunny day - following my attendance at The Equality Project - Australia and offering a wonderfully well attended presentation and panel discussion about being intersex, I find myself drinking traditional chai before I head back to Naarm (Melbourne). Gotta love regional Victoria.

I'm in Djilang, Wathaurong Country (Geelong, Vic) on this beautiful winter day, preparing to attend the 2024 Better Together Conference, where tomorrow I will do a presentation with my awesome intersex friends and colleagues.

When I sent off from my hostel this morning to find some breakfast the last thing I expected was to find a delicious vegan toastie less than one block away in Gheringhap St.. I totally recommend this hip eatery (Toasty) for a quick snack or relaxing brekkie.

Pride Month is a great opportunity to visit our regional cities and attend some of the many events held across Victoria.. like in Ballarat. It's also a great way for the LGBTIQA+ community and allies to come together in support and solidarity of us all, as one big melting pot of diversity.

The City of Ballarat is proud to present , a festival of 44 events over June 2024.
Flagship events include the Pride Month Market, Ballarat Pride Yarnbombing Project, the Pride Swim and Gym Night, and A Q***r Little Library, a little free library dedicated to LGBTIQA+ books. In 1994 I learned I have 47XXY S*x Chromosomes, am infertile and would be administered testosterone replacement therapy for the rest of my life.

Where were you on your intersex or endosex life journey in 1994

Three timelines if applied today
1955 - 1994
2015 - 2054
1855 - 1924

You'll remember we recently had Steph Lum on the my radio show The I in Us, who shared with Little Jase and I that submissions for Issue 4 of YOUth&I could soon be submitted.. we'll now you can. Please see the details below.

Deadline: Sunday 23 June

Who can submit?

Intersex people aged 30 or below from anywhere in the world. Partners, parents and family of intersex people may also be considered.

If you are younger than 18 years old, we will get in touch with you to talk further about publication risks.

Anonymous submissions or works to be published under a pseudonym are welcomed.

What can I submit?

We are accepting any kind of writing and artwork – anything that can be published in print! We have previously published essays, poetry, photography, drawings and comic strips. Look through our previous issues to see what we publish.

The theme for this issue is “Grow”. We want to hear about the experiences in your life that have changed you. This could be the obstacles you have overcome, the relationships you’ve made, the moments you’ve had that you have learned from and helped you become stronger or changed you in some way. We also want to hear about where you want to be. What are your hopes for the future, for yourself and for others?

You can use this prompt as much or as little in your submission as you like. You do not need to submit something related to this theme, but you can use it to help guide you in developing a submission.

Submissions must be your own original work, unpublished and not under consideration elsewhere.

Written work can be up to two pages. Get in touch if you would like to submit something longer and we can discuss.

What language can I submit in?

You may submit in any language. YOUth&I is an English-based publication. If you submit works in a language other than English, we will do what we can to translate your piece and publish your original piece alongside a translated version.

Depending on the language you submit in, we may need some guidance from you and/or a regional intersex organisation as to who may assist in the translation work. Please get in touch if there is someone you know.

This week on The I in Us Paul and Little Jase are excited to be introducing Max Aurora to the JOY community.

Max Aurora is an intersex / non-binary songwriter (songstress) living on Wurundjeri country. Max moved to Naarm from Nambri / Nunawal Country (also known as Canberra, Australia’s capital) a decade ago… to chase big-city music dreams, and though those dreams haven't panned out as Max planned, they are excited about the future.

Max loves being a part of the intersex and trans communities and is driven to tell their intersex / trans story through music and social media - to support others in the community to embrace their own identities. They also study Music Therapy at Melbourne University and do regular gigs around Melbourne with their indie rock band, Max Aurora & The Southern Lights. Max creates heart-gripping songs that treat emotions with care and curiosity.

When Max isn’t writing and performing songs, they pursue other passions including 50s fashion, finding new spots to go hiking, and… open-water sailing!!

We’ve previously played Max’s songs on The I in Us, and now we are delighted to welcome Max to the JOY studios, to perform live, and engage in some heart-warming conversation.
So please tune in to JOY 94.9 tomorrow, Wednesday 29 May 7-8pm (AEST) or stream via www.joy.org.au, iHeartRadio or the JOY app.
You can also catch up on previous shows by subscribing to our podcasts – via www.joy.org,au/theiinus or wherever you get your podcasts.
