The Aurora Group and GiveOUT, two LGBTQIA+ community-led funders, have announced they are merging to form Rainbow Giving Australia - featuring in Q Charity this month.

This union brings together the strengths of both organisations, creating a bold national LGBTQIA+ community foundation dedicated to empowering Australian rainbow communities. As a one-stop-shop for rainbow funding, Rainbow Giving Australia will champion the needs of the community and amplify support for grassroots LGBTQIA+ initiatives.

Having served our community since 2004, Q Magazine wanted to know more about this merger. Em Scott, CEO Rainbow Giving Australia, generously agreed to this interview.

The Aurora Group and GiveOUT, two LGBTQIA+ community-led funders, have announced they are merging to form Rainbow Giving Australia.

This union brings together the strengths of both organisations, creating a bold national LGBTQIA+ community foundation dedicated to empowering Australian rainbow communities. As a one-stop-shop for rainbow funding, Rainbow Giving Australia will champion the needs of the community and amplify support for grassroots LGBTQIA+ initiatives.

Over the past 25 years, The Aurora Group and GiveOUT have jointly paved the way for a stronger LGBTQIA+ sector by investing in grassroots organisations that tackle pressing community issues. In 2020, before formally partnering, the two organisations raised and distributed $226,690 to rainbow communities. Since then, they’ve continued to build momentum, collaborating on research like the Where are The Rainbow Resources report, and establishing the Amplify Pride Fund, which distributed over $450,000 in only two years.

This year, thanks to over $500,000 raised on GiveOUT Day and an additional $500,000 to be granted via the Amplify Pride Fund and Ignite Pride Fund, Rainbow Giving Australia will distribute $1 million to LGBTQIA+ communities across the country.

The merger recognises a shared vision, successful track record and the urgent need to maximise resources for the LGBTQIA+ sector. Backed up by an extensive due diligence process demonstrating its value to both organisations and the sector at large, this merger aims to transform the national funding landscape for LGBTQIA+ community leaders, organisations, and initiatives. Signature events such as Aurora Ball and GiveOUT Day will continue under Rainbow Giving Australia’s banner.

"By joining forces, we are amplifying our impact and setting a stronger foundation for the future of our community," said Rainbow Giving Australia CEO, Em Scott. “This is about mobilising much needed funding, but it's also about unity, and empowering our communities to lead and thrive. We are stronger together, and together, we can work towards a safer and more inclusive Australia for all.”

Urge Miami Festival Returns Thanksgiving Weekend

URGE Miami Festival returns this Thanksgiving weekend with three massive nighttime events and two sizzling daytime fetes including the Royal Palm Pool Party and the legendary Beach Party on the sands of South Beach. The LGBTQ+ festival weekend will take place November 29-December 2 and will feature a list of the world’s most famous circuit DJs playing at the city’s most prestigious venues. “URGE is not only a music festival,” says one the event’s producers, Luis Morera. “Throughout the years, it has become a place where friends, old and new, meet up to celebrate gratitude. URGE offers a space like no other where everyone has the freedom to express themselves while dancing to the sounds of the greatest DJs of our time.”

I just finished a Zoom call with Senhit - the host and spokesperson for 'Eurovision On Tour'. Usually a painful exercise for me (recording then transcribing) but not this time. Fathom AI Notetaker is AMAZING and I strongly recommend you add it to ZOOM and anything else you are able to. It automatically started at the commencement of the interview and automatically transcribed it AND (this may have sold me on AI) produced a very comprehensive summary and key points to take from the interview. Bravo Fathom - you've got me!

50 Birds is a visual arts exhibition that celebrates the 50-year anniversary for two iconic organisations – Arts Project Australia and Arts Access Victoria and is our feature Q Art piece this month.

It recognises 100 years of disability arts advocacy. Curated by Rosie O’Brien and Pegs Marlow, 50 Birds brings together 14 artists who are inspired by the beauty and brilliance of birds across ceramics, sculpture, painting, drawing, embroidery and textiles.

At a time (the past 3 years) when there are absolutely NO silver linings in my life, I was delighted to receive an invitation from Marsha H. Levine and Linda J. DeMarco to join the InterPride Emeritus Council.

I have never faulted in my belief that Pride will never be obsolete nor irrelevant. The formulation of this council clearly shows that InterPride is invested in directly utilising the knowledge bank that is only evident in those who have a significant life experience.
