*the response, both in comments and sales has been overwhelming. In just under 24 hours we have had a week's worth of sales! I thank everyone for their contributions. The response has meant so much.

After an exciting first 18 months at the Victorian Pride Centre, Hares & Hyenas is experiencing a tough time. The number of people visiting the Centre has fallen, which has meant less sales for the shop.

From the start of 2025, the VPC has decided to close on Sundays and public holidays, due to the cost of security and reduced visitors, whilst working on a plan to create a more vibrant environment during its opening hours.

VPC has been supportive financially but the dramatic change to our trading means that we are experiencing a challenging period to our cash flow.

The Seventies were a decade of struggle by le****ns, gay men and our friends for recognition, reform and respect. It was a decade that changed Australian society. When the NSW police attacked the first Mardi Gras in 1978, they were taking on forces that they barely knew existed.
This book examines the often-overlooked first decade of le***an and gay rights activism in Australia, when the foundations for our communities were laid.

Back in 1937 workers at Brisbane's Castlemaine Brewery fought for the 40 hour week and improvements in pay and conditions by occupying their workplace. Amongst other activities, indoor cricket kept them entertained. Tune into 3CR Community Radio's Stick Together show this Wednesday 15/1/25 at 8.30am AEDT to hear James Brennan discuss Knocking The Top Off: A People's History of Alcohol in Australia, a book which chronicles this dispute and many others, with co-editors Iain McIntyre and Alex Ettling. The show will also be made available via Stick Together's podcast page, the address for which can be found in the comments.
