Last weekend I was invited to photograph The Madonna Show at the Ipswich Civic Centre. What a fantastic show!

The band was excellent and 'Madonna' and her dancers were outstanding.

Awesome to see the crowd get dressed up for the occasion too. Brought back heaps of memories!

I did a little plane spotting this afternoon and was fortunate to see the US Air Force E-4B land and taxi past. This plane is also known as the “Doomsday plane” and is part of a group of aircraft known as the Nightwatch. The U.S. military has maintained the Nightwatch since the 1970s. The purpose of the doomsday plane is to serve as a moving command point in the event of nuclear war. Because it’s able to withstand a nuclear attack, the military could use it to command ground and air forces without the commanders being in one spot for too long. The plane is almost completely windowless. It features a special shielding designed to protect passengers from the thermal effects of nuclear weapons. Additionally, it can stay in the air for several days at a time and has the ability to refuel in flight.

On this day back in 2020, I had just returned from an epic trip to the Whitsundays with Peter Colquhoun. As a two-man-band, we were lucky enough to film a variety of hotels for the Hotels by Design TV series.

The Elysian Retreat is a 100% solar powered resort on the Great Barrier Reef and it was my very first shoot with Pete. I remember almost losing a lens cap overboard due to the windy and bumpy boat ride. We shot the opening piece to camera just as we arrived and Pete nailed it in one take. So awesome.

I had to travel light (we were due to fly a very small helicopter to Reefsuites the next day), so my gear consisted of my trusty GH5, Ronin gimbal, a couple of Rode mics and a small LED.

It was a great challenge to shoot as much as possible in the time we had available. We arrived in the afternoon and were due to leave the next morning so there wasn't anytime to chill. It was pretty much non stop through until bed then straight into again it the morning.

💥Flashback to 3 years ago! - A little promo I shot during a collaborative video project with Evolve Marketing Brisbane, Australia and Simon National Carriers. Together we produced a series of company promotional videos. This location was a huge warehouse with lots of room to play with timelapse, gimbals and gopros. I really enjoy shooting in real time on these types of projects.

Fork-lifts look like a lot of fun to drive, just quietly.

Looking back on this edit, I love the quick transitions and speed ramping. Also the whip around shot at the very start that goes from the front to the side. I remember I wasn't sure if that would work, but I think it ended up looking rather sweet! It was a time-lapse sequence during which the camera would take a shot and I would then move the tripod a couple of feet to the right until I had the desired perspective.

I recently filmed a whole lot of footage on location at Rediplant headquarters, Brisbane's leading plant hiring company located at Bundamba. Heaps of awesome earthmoving equipment to film including lots of real time, run-n-gun type of work as the team went about their daily business.

This is a little montage to showcase the loading of a CAT140 onto a truck and sending it out to work. Lots of fun as I ran around shooting the event in real time with gimbals, GoPro's, hand held and drones. I really enjoy the editing process. Often times I get back with a whole bunch of random shots and I wonder how it's all going to come together.

I love the creative process behind this type of work. Sound effects make a big difference too, what do you reckon?
