More than 40% of Japanese workers reckon they get less than 6 hours of shut-eye a night, so the country's coming up with some nifty solutions – like desk-mounted headrests, heated eye masks, and the Giraffenap - a booth that lets you snooze while standing up.

It's not a one-stop solution - all that sleep-standing can cause an increased risk of deep vein thrombosis. Not sure if we're sold or not...

Our Story

The Squiz is your shortcut to being informed. We send you a free weekday email and podcast with a uniquely Australian take on the news headlines. It’s a quick read and doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Prefer a hands-free news briefing? The Squiz Today podcast is for you. Whether you’re listening in the shower (hello!), on your commute, in the car with kids, or at the gym, we’ll have you across the news headlines - with a bit of analysis - in around 8 minutes.

Need a bit more backstory to the big stories? Our Squiz Shortcuts series is a weekly explainer on a topic, personality, or historical event that needs a bit more context. Think: How the World Health Organisation Works; Civil Rights in America; the US-China Trade War, A Recession in the Australian Context; Huawei, What Impreachment Actually Means... and so many more.

And then there’s Squiz Kids... A news podcast for 8-12yos. In just a few minutes, we give kids (and their adults) a rundown on the big news events delivered free of opinion, and with positivity and humour. Designed to slip easily into families’ morning routines, a new episode is out at 7am each weekday.
