Kalgoorlie’s domination of the Goldfields Football League’s colts division continued last weekend in a 23-point win, 7.10 (52) to 4.5 (29), against Mines Rovers.

The clash at Sir Richard Moore Sports Centre pitted the division’s top-two against each other, but Kalgoorlie led at every change and iced the win with a four-goal second half.

Kalgoorlie enjoyed a straightforward win against Mines Rovers in the GFL colts division last weekend.

The Goldfields Football League’s renewed focus on developing the game at grassroots level played out in front of nearly 50,000 spectators during the half-time break of last Sunday’s AFL clash between West Coast and Hawthorn at Optus Stadium.

Sixty-seven Goldfields children — 24 local Auskickers, 40 Year 5-6 players, and three youngsters from the GFL’s newly launched Starkick program — took part in half-time activities on one of the nation’s biggest stages.

Veteran jockey Peter Knuckey, who retired this week after more than 30 years in the saddle, made his mark at the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racing Club’s annual carnival as a two-time winner of the Hannans Handicap.

Knuckey, whose stellar career was underpinned by 1923 winners, in 2007 wrote his name into Goldfields racing folklore when he piloted the Adam Durrant-trained Keyton Grace to a decisive win in the Hannans.

An emergency response crew from Northern Star Resources has been crowned the champions of this year’s CME Surface Mine Emergency Response Competition.

The immersive event saw eight teams from Goldfields mining operations put their emergency skills to the test on Saturday and Sunday at FMR Investments’ Greenfields Mill, a few kilometres east of Coolgardie.

Northern Star Resources Kalgoorlie operations finished on top and recorded the most points during the rope rescue and confined space scenarios.
