The top tiers of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s Christmas tree which was damaged in a storm in 2023 have been brought back to life thanks to local crafters.

Freeman of the city Esther Roadnight formed a plan create a community crochet Christmas tree many years ago, but it was only last year she finally approached the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder for its support to get the ball rolling.

A farmer who died saving his beloved family farm from a bushfire has been identified as respected community member and Shire of Ravensthorpe deputy president Mark Mudie.

Mr Mudie was operating a front-end loader in a desperate attempt to establish a firebreak in West River, near Ravensthorpe, when it became engulfed in flames on Monday afternoon.

A man has admitted murdering his partner then setting fire to her body in a Warnbro house in a horrific domestic violence attack.

A former WA Academy of Performing Arts student has been sentenced to two years imprisonment, suspended for 18 months, after intentionally starting a fire in the house his ex-partner and toddler were living in.

On Monday, Kalgoorlie-Boulder man Quaid Jason Lawrence Cooper fronted Kalgoorlie District Court to be sentenced for one charge of criminal damage by fire.

Yesterday saw the unveiling of a crochet Christmas tree at Boulder Town Hall.

A cover of 240 community crocheted squares has given a new life to the top two tiers of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s Christmas tree that was damaged in a storm in 2023.

The repurposed tree is proudly on display at the front of the BTH.
