Spine widths change depending on the type of paper your book is being printed on, and if your book is too thick, you will need to have wider margins on the insides of your pages so that your text doesn’t disappear in the binding.

Just because a traditional publisher rejects your book doesn’t necessarily mean it’s no good – it can simply mean the publisher doesn’t see a way they can make money on it. And they need to do that – they’re a business. If they don’t make money, then they’re out of business!
