In our latest interview/podcast episode, we had the pleasure of chatting with the incredibly talented country music artist, Travis Collins. Known for his heartfelt lyrics and captivating performances, Travis shared some fascinating insights into his music and career.
We kicked off the episode by discussing Travis's hit song "Chill" and the unique way its music video came to life. While attending a country music event in Fiji, Travis and his bandmates found themselves with some spare time. Armed with just their iPhones, they spontaneously shot video footage, unsure of how it would turn out. To their surprise, the stunning location and the relaxed vibe of the footage perfectly matched the essence of the song. The video quickly became a fan favourite, even reaching number one on CMT.
Travis then took us behind the scenes of his latest single, "Don't Get Me Started." This song, written during a Zoom session with a friend in the US, is all about stepping into the unknown and pursuing dreams. It's a mix of adventure and romance, capturing the excitement of new beginnings and the desire for deeper connections. The catchy opening line, "Let's see what happens when the black Tyre hits a gravel," sets the stage for a journey into uncharted territory.
We also delved into Travis's early interest in music and songwriting. Growing up in a household filled with musical instruments, Travis started busking at a young age. His journey from street performances to securing a record deal is a testament to his dedication and passion for music. Travis emphasized the importance of seeing every opportunity as a stepping stone, sharing the valuable advice he received as a kid: "Every job is a job interview."
When it comes to songwriting, Travis draws inspiration from real-life experiences. While some of his songs are fictional, most are deeply personal, reflecting his own journey and emotions. He shared the

"In a world filled with challenges, sometimes the most unexpected paths lead to healing and transformation. Such is the story of Gary Fogarty, a man whose life took a dramatic turn after a severe car accident in 1985. This episode takes us through Gary's journey from a life of physical pain to finding solace and purpose in the world of bush poetry.
Growing up in a household without television, Gary's early exposure to poetry came from his father, who recited poems by Will Ogilvy and Banjo Paterson. This early fascination with horse poetry laid the groundwork for what would become a lifelong passion. However, it wasn't until a tragic accident left him with a fractured spine that Gary truly began to explore his poetic talents.
Confined to a body cast and battling chronic pain, Gary turned to writing poetry as a means of coping. Inspired by his father's few but cherished poems, Gary found a way to channel his pain and frustration into creative expression. His first public foray into poetry came unexpectedly when friends entered him into a poetry competition at the Gympie Muster. Despite initial nerves and the challenge of performing, Gary's talent shone through, and he went on to win the competition the following year.
Gary's story is not just about overcoming physical limitations but also about the power of poetry to give voice to personal and political sentiments. He speaks candidly about the role of poetry in expressing political views and the importance of freedom of speech. His works often reflect his experiences and the stories of those around him, making his poetry deeply relatable and impactful.
Despite the ongoing battle with chronic pain and the necessity of strong painkillers, Gary's dedication to poetry has provided him with a sense of purpose and a means of connecting with others. His work in community development and his performances have made significant co
