It's been too long between posts but we're still here Facebook, we're still here.

It was lovely to get back to the Gold Coast earlier this year to record on-site at the Australia and New Zealand Academy for Eating Disorders conference. This episode linked below is the second in a series of two. In this episode:

- Dr Simon Wilksch unpacks his work around the significant financial and emotional costs that families face when caring for children with eating disorders and, to improve outcomes, why he recommends that parents and caregivers receive support too.

- Monash’s Courtney McLean talks about the complex relationship between vegetarianism, veganism, and eating disorders, and the tool she’s developing to assess motivation for adopting to a plant-based diet. Her work points the way to improved diagnosis and care for vegetarians and vegans experiencing eating disorders.

- Belinda Chelius, CEO of Eating Disorders Queensland, explains her evidence-based rationale for including lived experience practitioners in eating disorder treatment, and why lived experience has always provided the infrastructure for EDQs work.

- Finally, Dr. Renee Denham, a child and adolescent psychiatrist based in Brisbane, describes the interplay between attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and restrictive eating disorders, and how we can identify and help kids affected.

These conversations reveal the multifaceted nature of eating disorders and the innovative approaches being taken to address them.

Confession time: I was asked to be a speed consultant for Tasmanian Leaders, and I was like 'Sure, why not?' But truthfully, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I mean, I've never done speed dating before, so this was uncharted territory for me.

But you know what? It ended up being a blast! I met some truly amazing people from the ILEAD not-for-profit cohort and had a great time chatting with them. And let's be real; it was probably more fun for me than it was for them.

Huge thanks to Tasmanian Leaders for giving me the chance to be a part of this. I may not have known what I was doing, but I'm so glad I did it!

Hi. It's Sam here. I'm embarrassed to admit that until recently, I had no idea what a think tank was. I mean, it sounds like a group of people who just sit around and...think, right? Well, I got a crash course in the world of think tanks when I was invited to the Australian Eating Disorders Research & Translation Centre's three-day think tank in Sydney as a lived experience expert.

Let me tell you, it was a mind-blowing experience. We were tasked with figuring out how to allocate a measly $6 million of government funding to eating disorder research. Easy, right? Wrong. I've been working with Butterfly for three years now, and I thought I knew a thing or two about eating disorders, but this was a whole new level.

There were some seriously impressive researchers there, from a neuroscientist who can make mice exhibit eating disorder behaviours to a team from Oxford working on an app to help people overcome stigma and seek help. And here I was, a humble lived experience expert just trying to keep up.

I have to say, it's encouraging to see the government taking steps to address this national crisis, but $6 million? That's like trying to put out a forest fire with a water pistol. Nonetheless, it's a start, and I'm grateful to have been a part of this eye-opening experience.

Imagine your brain as an orchestra but instead of playing the song that is you, you’re forced to play a different song, the wrong song…

Epilepsy is a condition that probably affects friends of yours, and people you love, but unless it affects you, you may not know much about it.

Symphony of the Brain decodes and demystifies epilepsy. Please listen. Please share.

We need your help.

Do you have a bit of the razzle dazzle and know how to get the message out about a new podcast, product or service? Or do you know someone who does?

We don’t offer marketing and promotions in-house at Ikin Media currently and many of our clients take care of this themselves. However, from time to time we’re asked to give a recommendation or bundle up a quote to include this.

Please help us to offer our clients the very best they can afford and send us your CV or work samples or whatever you need to make your story sing and fingers crossed we might be able to send some work your way.

Our kids are back at school in Tasmania this week, including my eldest who is starting high school. He’s more interested in YouTube than Facebook, Instagram or TikTok right now but with his own mobile phone now in hand it’s hard not to be a little on edge about what’s out there.

We’re lucky to have great clients who are producing great content and we’re continually learning something useful from them and their podcasts.

This episode of the Butterfly Foundation’s podcast is an oldie but a goodie and has some advice for navigating social media with your kids and keeping things positive, especially when it comes to body image.

Social media is a huge driver of body image issues and young people are particularly at risk. Packed with unrealistic images and...

It was an early start this morning as we headed in to the Hobart CBD to record the latest episode of the FontCast.

Lots of our clients prefer remote recording these days and it’s wonderful to be able to record with anyone anywhere. But it’s also a joy to bundle up the travelling recording setup to record on-site. And there are worse views 😆

Look out for new episodes of the FontCast dropping soon.

07/02/2023

New episodes of “Symphony of the Brain” are on the way soon. Catch-up on the first few episodes direct from the Epilepsy Tasmania website, Spotify, Apple Podcasts or from any of the major podcasting apps.

Does it seem like everyone is talking and tweeting about ChatGPT and the future of AI right now? We asked ChatGPT what it could tell us about podcasting and our new AI friend shared with us some of the most iconic podcasts that have captured the hearts of listeners:

- "Serial": A true crime podcast that took the world by storm in 2014.
- "This American Life": A weekly radio show turned podcast that's been on-air for over 25 years.
- "Stuff You Should Know": A general interest podcast that delves into a wide range of fascinating topics.
- "The Joe Rogan Experience": A long-form podcast where Joe Rogan has in-depth conversations with guests from various industries.
- "How I Built This": A podcast that tells the inspiring stories of entrepreneurs, innovators, and the movements they've created.

What do you think? Does ChatGPT have its finger on your pulse?
We'd love to hear about your favourites.
