From the custom pool fencing to the crazy paving, precision was the byword.

With space at a premium, the owners of this home in the inner-Melbourne suburb of Ripponlea wanted to make the most of what they did have. This involved the total reinvention of their front garden to create a verdant and welcoming landscape at the centre of which is a swimming pool and spa with curves in all the right places.

This intriguing project deservedly won the 2023 Victorian Landscape Awards’ Hard Structures in the Landscape category.

This modern tropical Balinese-style garden brings a touch of the exotic to the suburban location while uplifting the spirits and soothing the senses.

The swimming pool, decking and timber hut were already in place when multi-award-winning landscaper and designer Noel Brown, founder of Bioscapes Gold Coast, a personal friend of the homeowner, began to discuss the creation of a poolside focal point.

They talked of a central feature to be located at the far end of the pool. Something to complement the existing elements and engender a calming and peaceful ambience. After much reflection, the concept of an Angel Garden shrine took form.

At the heart of the shrine sits a green stone statue on top of a plinth. This shrine, and all the hardscapes, were designed and constructed by Noel, with particular attention paid to ensuring the new elements blended harmoniously with the lovely home, from which the owner works as a healer.

The lush tropical planting of this front garden creates a sense of intrigue and makes visitors feel welcome.

The brief was to take the barren front yard of a newly-built project home and give it a sense of personality. This luxuriant garden designed by Mitchell Kushturian of Exotic Living did exactly that.

The fact that the house was located opposite a bush reserve also presented a great opportunity to maximize the view from the house.

Nest Landscape Design created a garden that reflects the home's facade and location, providing an authentic sense of place. The multi-level house connects seamlessly with the landscape, featuring impressive terraces. The billabong-style pool area includes a playful pathway using rocks as a diving board.

Not only were the owners impressed, the project's success was recognized with the Residential 6 category award at the 2022 Landscape Queensland Construction Excellence Awards.

Warm and inviting with flourishes of vibrant colour, this cosy Gold-Coast courtyard is highly evocative.

Numerous transformations took place to bring this courtyard to life such as installing new tiling, the use of Moroccan-style frames, as well as a custom-built seating space.

Moroccan style is distinctive, being a blend of many cultures. In this highly evocative courtyard, designed by Michael Webber Architecture and built by Noel Brown and the team at Bioscapes Gold Coast , the style perfectly matches the home and the lifestyle of the owners.

Although the garden space was limited, Stuart Bain and his team from Earth Creation Landscapes were able to work their magic and fit a fire pit area, a pond and even a helix shaped outdoor shower. This Mosman front and rear gardens completely transformed the whole house. Thanks to Barrowar Pty Ltd the front garden has a more formal inviting design because of the neatly clipped Murrays hedges that lead to the front door and along the sides of the lawn.

The pressure is on to have this backyard picture perfect. Not only were they on a time crunch, Scenic Blue Design needed to create something spectacular as the pre-wedding reception was to be held in the garden. A lot had to be done before guests could even enjoy the outdoor space. To begin, part of the property could not be accessed because of the steep gradient.

🧱 This modern family garden offers clean, simple lines in recycled brick and timber while maximising space outdoors ☀️

Mark Tisdell, Director of MUD Landscape Design was asked to prepare a concept including a swimming pool, level turf areas, trampoline area, a shade structure for an existing deck and layered herb and vegetable gardens with fruit trees.

“The design sought to capture and embrace the essence of the site and blend seamlessly with the architecture of the existing residence,” says Mark.

At the AILDM Landscape Design Awards, this project won Gold in the Residential Landscape Design More Than 150m² category with the judges stating: “The designer has created warm, inviting spaces with highly appealing visual elements that are on view from the back of the house. Carefully chosen features, materials and plants transform this open space into practical and aesthetically appealing garden rooms. The designer has nailed the brief and the result is creative and stylish.”
