A Critical Reminder

We are disappointed to report that 306 of our Annual and School Licenses have not reported any music usage for the first six months of 2024. (Notice from ONE LICENSE on 15/8/24)

For decades, we have emphasised the importance of accurate music reporting. It is disheartening to see continued non-compliance with the fundamental terms of church music copyright licenses. Reporting music usage is essential for compensating composers for their work.

Using music without proper reporting is illegal.

By reporting music usage, you ensure that composers receive fair compensation for their creative efforts.

Please support our composers by accurately reporting all music used in worship.

We are honoured to welcome 'Aunty' Dolly McGaughey to the Willow family of composers. As a First Nations person, she brings invaluable experience and knowledge to our community.

Dolly was born on Poruma (Coconut Island) and is a Kulkalaig from the Kulkalgal tribe of Central Islands, Torres Strait. Coming from a family of musicians and songwriters, Dolly has loved music since childhood.

Her musical journey began with the harmonica, followed by the guitar and ukulele at age eight. She soon learned piano and began playing the organ at church. Music has remained an integral part of her life ever since.

In 1992, after her husband's passing, Dolly found solace in composing songs from her prayers. Today, her prayers and songs are intertwined, reflecting her faith journey. She believes music has been instrumental in her healing process and hopes her compositions can offer similar comfort to others.

Gracious God,

We lift up to you our church musicians, those who raise their voices and instruments in your praise. We know the weight they carry, the rehearsals that stretch into evenings, the early mornings for practice. We see the many roles they juggle in life, the demands of family, work, and self-care that often leave them feeling stretched thin.

In moments of weariness, grant them renewed strength. When time feels scarce, fill their hearts with overflowing joy in using their gifts for your glory. When burdens feel heavy, remind them of the uplifting power of the music they create.

May they find solace in the quiet moments of practice, a space for deep connection with you through the beauty of music. Bless their efforts, both large and small, and amplify the positive impact they have on our worship experience.

Light a fire of passion within them, rekindling their love for creating sacred music. Remind them that their dedication is a gift to our community, fostering unity and lifting spirits.

We pray for patience and understanding from their families and loved ones, recognising the sacrifices they make to serve in this ministry.

May they find peace in knowing their service is a cherished part of our worship, a testament to the power of music to touch hearts and connect us to the divine.

Through Christ our Lord,

Amen.

Mary, Mother of Jesus, on this Feast of the Assumption, we turn our hearts to you, a beacon of faith and unwavering trust.

We praise your obedience to God's will and how your ‘Yes’ led to the birth of your son, Jesus the Christ.

We reflect on your strength as you witnessed your son's suffering, your unwavering faith standing firm amidst unimaginable pain. Your presence by his side during the darkest hours exemplifies the depth of your love.

Grant us, a share in your faith. In moments of doubt, may we remember your unwavering belief in God's plan. When faced with trials, may your courage inspire us to persevere.

As you nurtured Jesus in his earthly life, so too, guide us on our journey. Lead us closer to your son, intercede for us in our needs, and cradle us in your loving embrace.

Through your intercession, may we grow in faith, hope, and love, following your example of devotion and unwavering trust in God's divine will.

Amen.

The new Mass of St Ambrose by Br Michael Herry is a sung setting inspired by the rich sacred music tradition of the early Church, the style of music known as Gregorian chant, beautiful both for its simplicity and its deep sense of the transcendence and mystery of God.

As Br Michael explains in his notes…

“With apologies to lovers of Gregorian Chant in its purest form, I have freely adapted this music for easy participation by today’s parish congregations. That being said, it is my hope that more people, including the young, might come to know and love this style of ancient Church music and all that it inspires.’’

Join your fellow parishioners in raising your voices in this uplifting setting. Let the Mass of St Ambrose transport you to a deeper connection with the divine through the timeless beauty of Gregorian chant.

Ever present God,

We come before you today with hearts full of love and concern for those in our community receiving palliative care. We lift them up to you, facing the end of their earthly journey.

Grant them, God, a profound sense of peace as they prepare for what lies ahead. Ease their anxieties and replace them with a quiet trust in Your presence.

May they find comfort in the love and support of their faith community. Surround them with the strength of prayer, the warmth of friendship and the assurance of Your everlasting love.

Help them find resolution, Lord. May any unfinished business be laid to rest, any burdens released. Guide them to mend broken relationships and offer forgiveness where needed.

Bless them with the presence of loved ones in these precious moments. May they be surrounded by those who bring them joy, laughter, and cherished memories.

As their bodies weaken, strengthen their spirits. Deepen their faith in You and fill them with the hope of eternal life.

We pray that they may feel Your embrace throughout this journey, a constant source of love and strength.

In Your holy name,

Amen.

Everlasting God,

We gather today with joyful hearts to celebrate the precious gift of new life within our faith community. We lift up the newborn babies, [insert names if known].

Thank you, Lord, for the miracle of birth, for the wonder of a new soul entering this world. Bless these little ones with health and grant them a life filled with laughter, love, and the warmth of your presence.

Watch over them as they grow, and protect them from harm. Fill their parents and caregivers with wisdom and patience as they nurture these young lives.

May these children, embraced by our faith community, discover the love of Jesus from a tender age. Grant them the opportunity to learn your word, to experience the joy of belonging to a community, and to grow in their faith.

Bless them with kind and compassionate hearts, a thirst for knowledge, and a desire to use their gifts for good. May they be instruments of your peace and beacons of hope in the world.

We pray that these newborns, and all the children within our community, may feel your love surrounding them each and every day.

Amen
