SONGWRITERS GATHERING - NEW FRIENDSHIPS, NEW SONGS

A remarkable gathering of musical talent unfolded in October 2024 when sixteen songwriters gathered at Lennox Head in NSW's picturesque Northern Rivers region for a weekend of collaboration, prayer, support and songwriting.

The retreat provided a nurturing environment where the songwriters shared their gifts and supported one another in their musical journeys. While the entire experience proved enriching, a particular highlight emerged: two exceptional songs were crafted during this time and subsequently selected for inclusion in the "PILGRIMS OF HOPE Music Collection for Parishes & Schools," published by Willow Publishing.

The selected compositions, "Hope in Love" and "Be Hope!", are ideal for ministry with young people, capturing the spirit of faith and positive energy. These songs represent the collaborative spirit and creative energy that defined this special gathering, adding fresh, contemporary voices to the realm of liturgical and community music.

Since the gathering, the group have formed THE SONGWRITERS CIRCLE and plan to continue meeting online and supporting each other by offering feedback on compositions, project support and prayer.

In just just three days Willow will release the new collection of 10 original songs and hymns for the Jubilee Year titled, PILGRIMS OF HOPE Music Collection for Parishes & Schools.

The collection's strength lies in its diversity and accessibility. From a jubilant anthem that echoes through cathedral spaces to contemporary arrangements that engage young worshippers, each piece has been crafted with congregational singing in mind. The varied musical styles include liturgical songs for different moments in the Mass, a universal chant, and contemporary compositions that speak to younger members of our faith community.

Simple Psalms: For Schools by Patricia Smith

This download is a selection of psalms for the most common celebrations which occur throughout the school year, such Opening and Closing Masses, Graduation, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Grandparents’ Day liturgies, and feasts and solemnities such as the feast of the Assumption, and the solemnity of St Mary of the Cross.

It includes seasonal psalms for each of the seasons of Advent, Lent, Easter and Ordinary Time, and responsorial psalms for sacraments such as Confirmation and 1st Eucharist.

The Liturgical and Topical indexes are a useful guide to suitable psalms for a range of liturgies, but these suggestions are not definitive. The words and meaning of the psalm should always be the main criteria for choosing the most appropriate psalm for any liturgy.
