Q***r Screen - Mardi Gras Film Festival has kicked off, amplifying the voices of LGBTIQ+ filmmakers as they present their short film projects, celebrating diverse storytelling for emerging talent!
Screen Australia are proud to support the 7th edition of the Q***r Screen Pitch Off via Gender Matters Taskforce, taking place on Sunday.
As to be expected we have another jam packed show today as we bring you the latest q***r film offerings & interviews.
We begin with the everyday chaos of raising a toddler for a le***an couple, as they maneuver through the pandemic & professional uncertainty in this refreshing slice of life feature film AMERICAN PARENT.
We review the film & speak to lead actor, Kristen Bush. AMERICAN PARENT is available with the gorgeous short film ‘EXPECTING’ at Q***r Screen - Mardi Gras Film Festival on demand offerings this September.
We also chat with writer-director Jane Schoenbrun for their feature

We also speak with Tracie Laymon, writer & director of BOB TREVINO LIKES IT.
The film tells the story of lonely 20-something Lily Trevino, who unexpectedly forms a close bond with a grieving, childless man named Bob Trevino, who shares the same name as her self-centred father.
We talk how the story is inspired by true life events, and about finding your chosen families.

Melbourne is spoilt for choice with film festivals. So today 4pm on Out Takes we leap into not one but TWO which open this week - MIFF & the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.
We speak with Onir who directs the gorgeous short film “Nandini,” (co-director William Duan) which follows a q***r Indian man reconnecting with his father.
The short is part of a greater anthology film “My Melbourne,” which opens the 15th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM, Aug. 15-25).
We also chat with local filmmaker Aarushi Chowdhury whose debut short film ‘Clown’ screens as part of the accelerated shorts at MIFF. (MIFF Aug. 8 -25)
