As part of our commitment to funding documentary filmmaking in Australia, Shark Island Foundation is inviting pitches for feature-length documentaries to share in up to $100,000 in development grants.

The Shark Island Foundation Feature Docs Pitch gives producers the opportunity to pitch at AIDC for the chance to receive a development grant to progress a feature documentary project

Producers are invited to submit a feature-length documentary project (75 mins+) in development with a plan for theatrical or streaming release. The story can be of any genre but must be character-driven, have a distinctive point of view, with a creative vision and clear artistic style. Ideally, it should have the potential to shift thinking.

In 2004, Archie Roach and Ruby Hunter joined forces with the Australian Art Orchestra for an extraordinary performance. Kura Tungar: Songs from the River was a multimedia song cycle that recounted the lives of Roach and Hunter – members of the Stolen Generations who found each other – and their unrelenting love of music.

The 2021 documentary, WASH MY SOUL IN THE RIVER'S FLOW, crafted footage from the performance, its rehearsals and behind-the-scenes interviews into a celebratory portrait of two remarkable artists.

For NAIDOC Week 2023, honour the love, lives and creative collaboration of Archie Roach and Ruby Hunter with a viewing of this incredible film.

In 2023, the scholarship will consist of one recipient receiving $50,000 and a three-month residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris AS WELL AS five recipients each receiving $10,000 and a two-week residency at Shark Island Institute, Kangaroo Valley.
