Warning area: Thallon and surrounding areas



A fire is burning at Carnarvon Highway, Thallon. It is moving towards Bullamon Plains. ‎



Firefighting aircraft are helping ground crews.

What you should do:

- Stay informed because conditions could change:

- Check the QFD Current Bushfires and Warnings website regularly.

- Follow QFD on Facebook and X.com.

- Listen to your local radio station.

- Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.

- Decide what you will do if the bushfire gets closer.

- Follow your bushfire survival plan now. If you do not have a bushfire survival plan, make one on the QFD website.

- Decide where you and the people you live with will go. This could be with family or a friend away from the fire.

- Keep medications close by.

- Avoid smoke – stay indoors, close windows and doors, and avoid driving through smoke.

- Watch out for firefighters working in the area.

- Do not fly drones around the fire. Drones affect air operations.

- If your life is in danger, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.



Impacts:

- No properties are at risk.

- Smoke can make it hard for some people to breathe.

- Smoke can make it hard to see when you are driving.

- Some roads may be closed.

On Sunday 12 January 2025, the son of Balonne Shire Councillor Robyn Fuhrmeister, Mr Ashley Jay Hicks was overwhelmed by waters being released at the base of EJ Beardmore Dam.

Following an extensive search and rescue operation coordinated by the Queensland Police involving State Emergency Services and Queensland Fire Department swift water rescue crews and specialist divers, Mr Hicks' body was located just to the south of the Dam wall just after 6am this morning.

Our deepest condolences and thoughts are with Councillor Fuhrmeister and her family in the wake of this devastating news.

We ask that Councillor Fuhrmeister and her family are given the appropriate privacy at this time.

We would like to thank emergency services staff, Sunwater, volunteers, community members and local businesses involved in supporting the QPS operation.
