ABOUT Dr Samuelson Appau
Dr Samuelson Appau is an Associate Professor of Marketing at the Melbourne Business School. He has a background in marketing and market research with a Ph.D. in Marketing from the University of Melbourne.

Samuelson's multidisciplinary research has been published in leading marketing and business journals. His research and academic projects have received funding from Plan International, Scanlon Foundation, and the Victorian Government. He is a highly regarded marketing and branding consultant, keynote speaker, and expert witness.

In his professional and academic career, Samuelson has worked with organizations such as Coca-Cola, Nestlé, Unilever, Etisalat, Barclays Bank, RACV, Your Closet, and Connective. He also supports many start-ups and entrepreneurs on how to build and sustain strong brands.

He is the Program Director for the Blue Nile Business Masterclass Program at the Melbourne Business School, a mini-MBA program designed for African Australian entrepreneurs, working professionals, and leaders of not-for-profit organizations.

Selam F. Tegegn is a distinguished Clinical Registered Nurse, union official, educator, and mentor with over a decade of experience in healthcare. Of Ethiopian origin and Eritrean heritage, she has risen to prominence despite the challenges faced by women from culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds. Since moving to Perth in 2003, Selam has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to community service, advocating for the CaLD community as a Canning Cultural Ambassador and utilizing various media platforms to amplify her message.

Selam’s leadership shines through her roles as Vice President of the Multicultural Labor Organisation and public relations officer for the Unity of Ethiopians in Western Australia. She is also actively involved in mentoring young people through the Organisation of African Communities WA Inc., where she has played a significant role in guiding and supporting the next generation. Her impactful contributions have earned her multiple awards, solidifying her reputation as a community leader.

As a community engagement expert, Selam is recognized for her communication skills, leadership, and activism. She plays a key role in coordinating and supporting charity events, aiming to create a robust network that alleviates the challenges faced by many within her community. Selam believes that fostering trust with diverse communities requires genuine compassion, patience, and a deep understanding of their often-traumatic experiences.

Her role as a Clinical Registered Nurse allows her to integrate her professional expertise with her community advocacy seamlessly. For Selam, community service is more than a duty it’s a way of life. Ayor Makur Chuot is a trailblazing politician in Western Australia, currently serving as a Member of the Legislative Council for the North Metropolitan Region. Elected in 2021, she became the first African-Australian and the first person of South Sudanese heritage to hold a seat in any Australian parliament. Born in an Ethiopian refugee camp, her family fled the Second Sudanese Civil War and lived in Kenya's Kakuma Refugee Camp before migrating to Australia in 2005.

Hon Ayor's career has been diverse, from working as a patient care assistant and accountant to becoming an international model and running a restaurant. She is also known for her advocacy for multiculturalism, women’s interests, and improving opportunities for migrants and refugees. In 2023, she was honored with the One Young World Politician of the Year Award for her efforts in fostering positive changes within her community. Highlights
