Over 70 years of camera evolution…. The Arri ST 16mm motion picture camera was first released in 1952, the SR2 in 1975, and what’s cool is there are ways to use lenses for those cameras on a 2024 iPhone 16! Why? Well there are technical benefits as it allows the iPhone to capture the shallower depth of field that these lenses can produce, other reasons… and there’s also something just cool about using old lenses. These ones started off shooting documentaries in the UK, have travelled to Africa, shot family moments, and been passed through many inquisitive hands at a Sydney film school. Super cool to take a look at this gear with cinematographer and educator Pieter de Vriesvries, and iPhone Product Manager and defender lover Jimmy Jamesj

For the interested the iPhone taking lens is from Beast Grip, and is probably very similar to the ones used on the shooting of incoming zombie flick - 28 Years Later.

A little BTS from a recent shoot. Thanks to .pictures for the pictures, for the drifting, Andrew for not drifting and just going fast, Steve for the lighting, Chris for all the car rigs, for the noise, for the focus, for the fake grease, for the instant garage set, for the producing skills, and everyone at for being so incredible. Looking forward to sharing the full noise version soon. Adam survived, but isn't the same...

We'll never get bored of making these little rehearsal pieces. Lots of action to capture with the addition of dancers from Sydney Dance Company so we added a couple of iphones to the camera mix. Ended up with a mix of 7 cameras between 2 operators, and with 5 takes got 24 camera angles to play with. Thanks Australian Chamber Orchestra

A little campaign we produced for the Australian Chamber Orchestra. We think if they keep practicing they'll really have something. Seriously though, seeing them is an experience we can't recommend enough.
