Sunny helped me put the Christmas tree up this year.

This is a big deal, we had to replace our giant Myers Christmas tree with a cheap little Kmart one because it was too dangerous to have such a large heavy tree that Sunny could pull down onto himself.

The first few years of Christmas as every parent knows are a mix of, keeping your child excited about the Christmas decorations and Christmas and also stopping them from pulling all the decorations off and pulling the tree down on themselves.

I’m kind of feeling confident that next year we can go back to a larger thicker fuller heavier tree without worrying about him pushing it over or pulling it down on himself maybe?

This little Kmart tree with a mix of non breakable decorations, cute little squishmellows and lots of candy land Inspired decorations that are inexpensive and simple but they are helping to create childhood memories for little boys who love Christmas. It’s not an aesthetically pleasing or interior design worthy tree. But Sunny loves it and he even brought my camera to me, (which was terrifying as he could of dropped my camera)and then ran in front of the Christmas tree and waited for me to take a photo of him. He’s never done that before and that was actually really exciting that he wanted a photo with his tree.

I always knew I was different going up as I child. I just didn’t have the understanding or knowledge of what we all know now as being neurodivergent. I remember not always being understood, accepted, liked or wanted in some social situation or workplaces and I now understand that my energy, light and enthusiasm for life were too much for the wrong people.

I also remember the opposite finding people who just loved and adored me. They found me fascinating, loved to spend time with me couldn’t get enough of me and really appreciated every aspect of my personality by creativity and everything that made me me.

I now have incredible pattern recognition for this type of energy and I can’t explain it but only good people are drawn towards me.

As a fully self aware ADHD adult I only allow my energy and my time to be spent with people who love and support me.

My advice to others with ADHD, build at life with friends who are your biggest supporters of everything you do. People who love you to your face and behind your back. Don’t settle for anything less in any aspect of your life.

A little trip Down South with the boys 🤍

Taking two children away on holiday alone as a solo parent is my normal. It’s my life. And yes it’s stressful, overwhelming, and sometimes I question why I do it. The alternative would be staying home because it all feels like too much… too much pressure, too much planning, too much for one person to manage two children with ASD out in public.

And then there’s the financial side. Fuel, accommodation, their special foods, the activities that keep them regulated… all of it coming from one parent, the parent who can’t work full-time because they’re also the full-time caregiver. The cost of this little trip to Busselton and Margaret River was honestly the same as a week in a luxury resort in Thailand.

But then I remind myself why I do it.
Because their childhood matters.
Because memories matter.
Because one day they’ll remember Mum taking them on adventures, laughing together, exploring together, even when it wasn’t easy.

You have to be realistic and gentle with yourself. Travelling alone with two autistic children is hard… but it’s also incredibly rewarding. They won’t remember my stress, they’ll remember how loved and included they felt.

I’m also deeply aware of how privileged I am to even be able to take them away. Some autistic children simply cannot travel. New environments are too overwhelming, too unpredictable, and home is the only place they feel safe. I never take that for granted.

And truly… the people we met on this trip made such a difference. Everyone was kind, patient, and understanding of my boys and their needs. It felt beautiful to be part of a community that didn’t judge us, because so often being out in public feels unsafe and exhausting due to the stares, the comments, the misunderstanding.

But this trip reminded me that there are good people.
There are safe spaces.
And there are moments that make all the hard parts worth it. 🤍

Who has their tree up already?

I am trying to wait until December 1st but I really want to get it up now.

Also do you still get your Santa photos done with the family at the shopping centres? I am think of just doing a family shoot at home this year. It’s very stressful with two children with ASD one who doesn’t really understand to sit with Santa and smile. I feel like it’s kinder not too this year for my little sensory 4 year old. I know most of the Santa photo sessions due to a sensory session but I still feel it’s just so stressful because they really don’t understand what’s going on.

Also have you seen Christmas tree and lights are up already! It’s so beautiful ❤️🤍✨
