Now, Lemac is proud to be the exclusive Australia/New Zealand dealers and service support partners for TRIBE⁷, offering their revolutionary BLACKWING⁷ lenses alongside the newly announced EZANA range.

Who is TRIBE⁷ ?

Founded as a collaboration between artist and Academy Award-nominated cinematographer Bradford Young, ASC, and Neil Fanthom, motion picture camera and lens technologist, TRIBE⁷ is a company dedicated to deepening the possibilities of contemporary image creation.

BLACKWING⁷ optics exhibit unique imaging properties which arise from the introduction of controlled distortion during the development and manufacturing processes. This distortion is modular and allows a level of tuneability over key parameters which shape many creative characteristics of the lenses.

Many of the design cues for BLACKWING⁷ primes originate in optics manufactured during the 1930 - 1960s, with each focal length having an underlying level of distortion which can be controlled to produce strong artistic resonances including unique flaring characteristics.

With EZANA, the creative team were inspired by ultra-widescreen Cinerama, when the iconic 2.76:1 aspect ratio was gaining popularity in the 1950s, EZANA reimagines this aesthetic by blending spherical optics with an anamorphic look.

All EZANA primes feature Multi-Coated optics, a warmer look with amber flare characteristics, a new pupil (rainbow) flare that sits somewhere between the T and X Tuned BLACKWING⁷ and a crossover (oval) iris design which when shooting at the open end gives a medium format anamorphic feel to images and bokeh.

Last week and over the weekend, Lemac were proud to support Northern Territory ACS members with several events in conjunction with the branch ACS Awards evening.

Events kicked off on Thursday with support for the always wonderful Peter James ACS ASC, who put on a Masterclass generously hosted by the team at Global Headquarters. Peter demonstrated lighting techniques and discussed shooting across various camera formats & lens selection considerations.

On Friday we hosted our NT Workshop featuring the Sony Burano, Canon C400, Easyrig Minimax + Vario5 Stabil, along with accessories from Tilta, ARRI, English Stix, Oconnor, Manfrotto and Swit. Further to that we took along a very vast lens inventory with glass from Sigma, Laowa, Tokina, Canon, Nisi, P+S Technik, Cooke, Zeiss, Ancient Optics and more. National Rentals Manager, Tim Jordin presented attendees with a lens centric presentation delving into many aspects of lens characteristics, and outlining how our choice of optics impacts our story telling.

Saturday saw the start of the NT Screen Summit held by Screen Territory, with a diverse and insightful set of panel discussions. To cap it all off, a fantastic Saturday evening at the Deckchair Cinema for the 2024 NT Branch ACS Awards. Under the stars in the company of the gecko’s made for a very unique experience we won’t soon forget.

Thank-you to all of the members who came along and supported us over this time. It was fantastic to be involved and such beautiful country you get to call home.

Someones happy - The all new Preston MDR-5 is now available to purchase and rent from Lemac!

The MDR5 is a minimal-size three channel motor driver, perfect for compact cameras. It is compatible with Preston hand controls connected via the robust G4 wireless link. It also supports new Light Ranger 2 lens functions including diopter calibration and Dolly zoom (requires HU4).

An external Microforce zoom control uses the new Zoom+Serial port (requires cable #8765).

The dual Serial Ports allow connection to the Light Ranger 2 and other distance measuring devices. The distance information from these devices is shown on the HU4 along with the focus k**b setting and limits.

The MDR5 motors may also be controlled with combinations of Preston hand controls: HU4, Focus/Iris and Wireless Micro Force.

Lens metadata is available in real-time from the Serial Ports for controlling virtual sets via the Unreal Engine, or for use in post-production.

ANOTHER FRESH SET OF REHOUSED VINTAGE MINOLTA ROKKORS AVAILABLE NOW -

“Rokkor” refers to Mt. Rokko which could be seen from the Minolta factory in Japan. In the late 60’s and all through the 70’s, Minolta made some of the best glass in the world under the Rokkor label. Unlike most manufacturers, Minolta was capable of producing its own glass elements and coatings. Their reputation for innovation and quality was already firmly in place.

The Rokkor line of lenses was one of the most complete sets on the market. Our sets go all the way up to 11 focal lengths from 21mm to 200mm. The well known 21mm f2.8, 58mm f1.2, and 85mm f1.7 are still coveted by photographers around the world. The 100 f2 is an earlier design, but easily one of the best Rokkors ever. However, one of Minolta’s latest designs is the most special of them all. . . The incredible 135mm f2.
