We recently had the honour of interviewing @laurajeanmckay at the @wordsonthewaves writers festival. Laura was there to talk about her book, ‘The Animals in that Country’ which is critically-acclaimed and highly awarded, taking out the @arthurcclarkefoundation award, the Victorian Prize for Literature, an @abia_awards amongst others.
The premise of the book is a fictional pandemic in which humans gain the ability to understand animals, and it’s a dystopian look at the potential consequences of this understanding.
Interestingly, the idea for this book predated the Covid pandemic, and came out at a time where life was very much mimicking art. Laura talks about this experience and how it felt to watch the real pandemic unfold while promoting this book (she swears she didn’t start Covid as a publicity stunt!)
