It is now 5 days on from the Vinnies Tasmania CEO Sleepout and I would love to thank everyone who donated to both myself and others who took part. Donations are still rolling in and just today I received a very kind $1000 donation.

We have raised $68,000 in Tasmania, $8.3M in Australia and personally I have raised $3,350.

What does that mean for me personally? It means 10 individual support programs, 27 beds and 111 meals.

So to everyone who is asking how it was?

Well firstly it was a cold night and not a lot of cloud cover (0 degrees and a lovely crisp chill in the air). I think I had more layers on than I do most nights but the multiple shirts and jackets helped keep the cold out.

During the lead up to the sleepout, after some light soup and a bread roll, we were privileged to hear from both leaders who were actively involved on the front line and companions (the Vinnies term for those in vulnerable circumstances). Both provided a valuable insight into the plight of the homeless across Tasmania and Australia.

We also had an auction where we could donate by way of bidding on items. What did I buy? A blow up mattress which sounded way more extravagant than it was! However it was a welcome level of comfort from the hard cement.

Prior to turning in for the night we were asked the question, What Will We Be Thinking About at 2am? Not sure about the time but waking up in the middle of the night to the extreme cold, the poor bedding and the knowledge that I had more to come left me thinking about those who do it night after night after night.

Some have said why not do it for two nights or a week, why not do it on an empty stomach, why not do it in a park, or in the open. Yes we could have and we would have an even deeper understanding of what the homeless go through but the event was more than just a personal awareness journey.

The purpose of the night was to bring a level of understanding to all of us who spend their nights in front of an open fire or a working heat pump, a warm bed and a home cooked meal.

So now it is all over, will I do it again next year? Yes I will and I would urge you to think about being involved next year wherever you are. Get involved because if not you then who.

And to the Vinnies Tasmania team, who all participated and slept out as well (including the national president who was at the Launceston event), our beanies are off for the amazing work you do.

In just over a week I am heading out into the cold Launnie night for one night. Just one night in the possible below 0 temperature to raise money for those who have to brave the cold night after night. Tonight as we get into our warm beds, 122,500 people will be homeless across Australia.

Let's help Vinnies break the cycle of homelessness!

My goal is to raise $5000. Where does it go? In Tasmania, funds raised by the 2023 CEO Sleepout helped arrange crisis accommodation, rental relief, fuel, transport and utilities costs, medical and wellbeing needs, and providing a basic supply of food.

Well it is Day One of 2022 and I have a goal this year to help as many people get started on their own podcast as I can. Why? Because I believe that Podcasts are the future and I love helping people find their message and turn it into a podcast.

Not only is it an effect way of getting your message across, it is also a whole lot of fun!

So many people started a podcast last year during lockdown that it created a massive boom that hasn't slowed down.

Now maybe you already have a podcast and it hasn’t quite worked the way you wanted it to, maybe you just put down some groundwork in starting one or maybe you have only just thought about it.
