At The Downs List, we love to shine a light on the Darling Downs' best and brightest. But we're also not afraid to call out the things we dislike: the supermarket duopoly. For those who want to ditch the majors, we wholeheartedly encourage our readers to check out The Source Bulk Foods Toowoomba.

From the moment of entry, you will be hard-pressed to not find any inspiration in their selection. Existing grocery lists and dinner plans are usually abandoned within a matter of minutes!

Their entire selection is available on demand without packaging. This means you can bring a jar and grab the exact amounts you need. Not to fear: Complimentary paper bags are available, and zero-waste newcomers can purchase reusable packaging.

The Source Bulk Foods is great and our top choice for sustainable grocery shopping. For visitors, our staff pick is the 'Oceanade' blue kombucha. It's light, refreshing, and can be enjoyed year-round.

Running the Facebook group comes with many perks, one of which is being referred to the most interesting local artists. For the past few years, Katie Whyte has been on our radar, and if you've seen one of her many murals around town, she's likely been on yours, too.

One of our Downs List contributors picked up this kettle from her Instagram. Her mugs and kettles are made from op-shop finds and materials that would have otherwise made their way to landfill: offcuts of sign-writer's vinyl. Some of her art available for purchase is currently being displayed at Banter Coffee Kitchen

Wyalla Plaza is a community shopping centre at its best. There is nothing pretentious about it, just decent, good old fashioned customer service and care.

The parking is good, and the variety of shops caters for almost everything you would need on a daily basis.

We were particularly impressed with the butcher, baker, green grocer combo, complimented by the pharmacy, news agent duo, plus more. We’d love to give Rosie’s fashion store a wrap, but according to Rosie, she’s busy enough already!

What a view!
We believe that has the best seat in the house, with a spectacular view across the Great Divide.
We also testify that the tasting paddle we shared was spectacular, with our choice of pale ale, amber ale, lager and bitter (there are many more).

The menu is spot on for a brewery lunch or lazy afternoon, and the kids, four legged included, have a place to shake it off.

is obviously a very welcome addition to the Darling Downs Cafe scene.

Servicing many small businesses in the region, Frank works hard so that others can enjoy takeaways at work.
