Altec 438c vari-μ tube compressor-amplifier, brother of the Altec 436c. Altec 436/438/A/B/C’s were used at Abbey Road and were very heavily modded by the EMI techs to create the EMI RS124 compressor.
The Altec 438C has a mic preamp where the 436C doesn’t.
Big shout out to Warren at Hux Electronics for servicing it, FYI this has not had the EMI mods done.
