It's been an exceptional weekend for whale watchers and photographers with some stunning images captured off Pt Arkwright near Coolum. Jo Ward captured the first image of the baby humpback putting on a little show on Sunday afternoon. "We suspected it was feeding time as the cow and calf were close to shore with limited surface activity, and then the calf started breaching which suggests... a bit of playtime after lunch,'' he told us. Sandra Macheroux reported there were lots of whales heading south near Coolum. "Two mums and their calves entertained the many onlookers around 3pm." Jeffrey Addison was also on hand to capture the magic at Pt Arkwright. "We estimated that they were probably about 1.2km south of the headland, they passed by the headland at about 800m away but didn't breach until further away." Boaties are reminded they need to keep a good distance from the whales so as not to interfere with the migration north and south each year.
