What is International Literacy Day?

International Literacy Day was established by The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation UNESCO, in 1966 “to remind the public of the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights.”

Why do we need International Literacy Day?

Over 775 million adults struggle with basic literacy, and two-thirds of this figure are women. Celebrating International Literacy Day is a great way to raise awareness of the value of literacy and to encourage children and adults alike to develop their literacy skills.
