"Nowhere is this more apparent than in the shredding final third, where the tension breaks and Equal Parts show off a noisier, cathartic side, all tangled guitars and crashing drums. It’s nothing if not a striking opening statement, and we can’t wait to see what the band do next."

The verdict is in, thanks Various Small Flames

'A Crisis' is the debut single from Equal Parts.

The sound is focused, but coarse around its edges. Balanced with the perpetual drone of eager guitars and anthemic trumpet, a sense of tension stretches across the track. The spoken vocal places us in a bleak street, feet battling fatigue, leaning against the weight of the world. The contemplative lyrics are underpinned by triumphant instrumentation; a bold introduction from the new group.

Equal Parts are made up of members from local bands CLAMM and Floodlights.

Thanks Austin Town Hall for the feature!

"This track has the push and pull of an off-kilter post-punk piece, tugging at you with this driving rhythm, only to shove you forth with this emphatic backing call-and-response vocal approach..." ATH.

Australia has been kicking out rad jams all week long, and it looks like this new band Equal Parts is just adding to the brilliant hits coming our way. The band’s made up of members from CLAM

Some behind the scenes photos from Mug’s latest film clip for ‘From the Lookout’.

The self-directed clip sees Mug set sail in St Kilda harbour, then eventually ending up at the sleepy town of Port Fairy. Stylistically walking the plank of humour and sincerity, it lands somewhere in between.

Mug will perform live in the intimate Colour Bandroom to finally celebrate the release of their debut EP ‘Mug’ a year after its release.

Tickets: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/mug-ep-launch-tickets-370829600317

Their seven track debut entered the world in July 2021 on Tiny Town Records. The final form of this release provides an intimate portrayal of connection, loss and personal restorative affirmations over a time where solitude was forced upon them.

"Built on a skeleton of drum machine and floaty synths, the serene atmosphere is grounded with a knotted tangle of electronics and subtle guitar work that feels like a whispered version of Gamjee’s restless unpredictability."

Great review of Mug's debut EP by Various Small Flames ❤

Floodlights spoke with Trouble Juice about their influences of the new 7"! It opens with a beautiful write up too.

"'The More I Am' is stirring and resounding, bursting with seriousness and sincerity; in its delicate combination of jangle and rockier terrain, it recalls the rousing momentum of RVG. The driving and cutting guitars are anthemic towards the end, the song never relenting."

Following the release of their new 7” double single, we got in touch with happening Aus-core fanatics Floodlights to dig into the influences behind ‘The More I Am’ and ‘Overflowing Cup’.

Cheers Beat Magazine for featuring Mug in this!

"If you’re a fan of Broadcast, Vanishing Twin or Stereolab, then Mug might be up your alley. Steeped in the European art-rock influences the aforementioned bands have carved out, there’s also nods to Melbourne’s Little Band Scene here, with the eccentric pop artistry of Essendon Airport and Use No Hooks also in the frame."

Mug EP is out now wherever you listen to music.

Spanning punk, garage, soul, jazz, hip hop and more.

Mug had a chat with Jim at Trouble Juice about their single 'Brace Yourself'.

"...it’s almost impossible to know whether the level of composure and restraint found on ‘Brace Yourself’ is the duo’s modus operandi or, like the title suggests, the calm before the storm."

Off the back of the announcement of their forthcoming debut EP, we caught up with Lily and Sam Harding, the two minds behind Mug, to delve into the idiosyncratic new project and their serene new single ‘Brace Yourself’.

Horrorscope, by Dragoons

TT002: Dragoons - 'Horrorscope' is out now on all platforms! These nine tracks span across various genres and moods, while sounding like an illusive movie soundtrack as a collective. We are happy to give light to an experimental and exploratory work of this kind. Long live Dragoons and their ethos! All tapes are being sent off today, about 10 left... don't sleep.
Endless thanks to Eytan Messiah for his Art and Design work.

Congrats CLAMM!!!

Triple R’s Album of the Week is “Beseech Me”, the debut from Melbourne trio CLAMM. The urgency is felt from the first few seconds – a wail of feedback and the line “It’s coming for me” over a thrashing riff. CLAMM have been around for just over a year and they’ve made a massive impact, supporting internationals and forming part of an emerging local scene that includes groups such as Gamjee and Dragoons, and Floodlights. CLAMM’s early singles have also made a strong impression, attracting comparisons to Iggy and Black Sabbath with their nervy, heavy, hard rock and garage punk styles. The lyrics are equally powerful, addressing themes of anti-violence, materialism, mental health and the state of modern Australia.

For the chance to win a copy of this week’s Album Of The Week, Triple R subscribers can enter at rrr.org.au/giveaways before Sun 16th February 2020.

Gamjee - European Cars (snippet)

Gamjee - ‘European Cars’. A warmly appreciated single (thus far), which is hard not to be sucked in by. Gamjee haven’t been tied to any tropes of their previous releases in the past, and this has resulted in defining a whole new sound for the band. We love Gamjee, and so can you. ‘European Cars’ streaming everywhere now. Pre-order the whole album ‘Legacy Project’ on cassette here: https://tinytownrecords.bandcamp.com/album/legacy-project
