We are mourning the loss of an icon from the international transgender community. On the 9th of June 2024 Lynn Conway passed away.

Lynn is one of the people who is responsible for you being able to read this post, access the internet, or use almost any piece of modern technology. She helped start the Mead-Conway VLSI chip design revolution (Very Large Scale Integration) which is the basis for most of our integrated circuit design.

Lynn started transitioning in 1968 and was fired by IBM who took over 50 years to apologise in 2020.

Starting on the 2nd Sunday of each month, join me on Radio VCA 88.5FM with Beyond Labels with Jeannie for a special LGBT Interfaith Segment! 🌟

Each month we will be welcoming leaders from various faiths to share their efforts in including and supporting the LGBT community. These inspiring conversations will highlight the importance of eliminating discrimination and fostering acceptance for all.

For our first segment, we are honored to have Reverend Peregrin Campbell-Osgood from Ascension Church Midland. Reverend Campbell-Osgood will share insights on how his community is working to support and include LGBT individuals and have a chat about the very successful Interfaith IDAHOBIT event that he organised for the 17th of May.

In the lead-up to the upcoming elections and amidst growing attacks against the LGBTIQA+ community and transgender healthcare, it is crucial that we support those within the faith community who are challenging discrimination and exclusion. Their efforts are vital in promoting love, acceptance, and unity.

International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) 🏳️‍🌈

IDAHOBIT celebrates the LGBTQ+ community while raising awareness of the historical and continuing challenges the community still faces.

This day marks the anniversary of the World Health Organisation removing homos*xuality from the classification of diseases and related health problems.

Elianie is a 16-year-old singer-songwriter harking from the Perth/Boorloo hills whose breathtaking voice and sophisticated songwriting has already made her a local favourite.

I wanted to give an update to my listeners and fans.

My surgery went very well last week and I was discharged from hospital this Tuesday 6 days later. Since then I have been resting up in a hotel across from the hospital. I'm not in a lot of pain and have been for a couple of walks but my body has taken every opportunity to remind me that it's been through a lot and I should get back in bed lol.

Recovery is progressing very well and it looks like I should be getting back to Perth a few days earlier than expected so I'm hoping to be able to make it for Beyond Labels with Jeannie on Sunday the 26th of May a week earlier than expected.

In the meantime I'd like to point out that a few anti LGBTIQA+ groups seem to have gotten a little upset with me and the show and keep trying to report all my posts and events that I share. Obviously an openly Transgender radio presenter who's just gone through surgery is a threat to some people So if you suddenly can't find my page you know what has happened.

Rather sad really, but not unexpected. And they call us snowflakes lol.

This is a time when it is important for us all to come together and support each other. Particularly on IDAHOBIT day this week. Get out there and share the love.

I'll be sharing a few events and activities here on my page while I can so please share as well and support those who support us.

Trans and gender-diverse Western Australians will no longer be required to undergo medical or surgical reassignment to formally register a change of s*x or gender under proposed reforms to be introduced in State Parliament this week.

Instead of a walk this morning I'm having a quick breakfast in Midland then popping into Ascension Church Midland who are great supporters of the LGBTIQA+ community.

They have a special interfaith IDAHOBIT coming up on the 18th of May to support our community and bring together LGBTIQA+ people of all faiths. This is a really important reminder that many people in religious society do accept us for who we are and we need to stand together.

Today Roger Cook announced a bill to abolish the gender recognition board. This is a huge step forward for recognition and support of the LGBTIQA+SB community in Western Australia.

Thank you Roger.

Everyone deserves their legal identity to align with their lived identity.

We're about to introduce a very important piece of legislation that will remove barriers for our LGBTQIA+ community.

Today, we're announcing new reforms to abolish the Gender Reassignment Board.

It might not sound significant, but it will make a huge difference in the lives of many Western Australians who have been burdened with an outdated system.

Previously, Western Australians whose gender identity does not match the one listed on their birth certificate would have to go through onerous gender reassignment surgery to register the change.

Instead, an application will have a statement from a medical practitioner or psychologist certifying that the person has had appropriate clinical treatment, which may include counselling.

Everyone deserves the respect and dignity of being recognised as themselves.

These reforms are about diversity and inclusion - but most importantly, they are about respect.

It’s as simple as that.

This Sunday is a special day and celebration for me. Those who have been listening for a while will know that I have been planning my gender affirmation surgery a while. Well on Friday I completed the final hurdle with the release of funds from my superannuation to pay for the surgery, all $62,000.00 of it. Yes that's how much this is going to cost me. So in less than a month I'm on my way to complete a journey that has taken over 40 years.

So this Sunday I'm celebrating and I want your help.
