Content or surviving?
I noticed how, after half a day of hiking, my mind went from curious wondering (new ideas about the challenges and responsibilities of my life) to quiet concentration. I only thought about enduring what was in front of me.
I wonder now whether this was exhaustion and survival - I was solo hiking after all and there wasn’t anyone who would drag me out of the creek bed should I fall off the waterfall scramble - or whether this was the natural process of having mentally digested for a few hours to experience stillness.
Good to get out nonetheless. This was last weekend’s solo overnight hike at Mt Donaldson.

What was it like where you were tonight?
Cracker sunset over here.
Had these layers of pink and purple in it that took the breath away.

Whatever means necessary 🤙
Keeping it trad lately has looked like finding new lines to get up, by any means necessary. An awkward jug, a broken hold, a shaky foot, a dodgy placement and then a cry of celebration on top out - Good times over here! 🥳

Glad to be up with the sun this morning! ☀️
Cracker of a day here in Toowoomba. Took an extra halfer to get out to the mountains cause we were taking in the views. 🤯 Love when winter brings her mist into the valley.

I love a winter sunset.
Sure the climbing was incredible, and the company was stellar, and the pub meal afterwards = satisfaction.
What the sun does when it gets cold is like nothing else.
Photo from the summit of Mt Maroon, after climbing Ruby of India. Another great reason to and !

We stole the Ruby last week!
Cracker of a day last Friday on a terrific climb. The first time climbing on meant the route-finding was a little difficult, but it didn't stop us from getting it done. Pitch 3 was just incredible climbing - I stepped out onto the arete and didn't want it to stop. Winter is shaping up in the .
Training (think growth in general) is a fairly ordinary experience. It’s a cluttered garage at 8:30pm after 11 hours at the office and a couple hours connecting with family. We live with the end in mind (strength and victory), but live in the present (endurance and grit).
Why do it? As much as the spectacular draws the eye, and as much as the ordinary wears on us, I think we long for growth and renewal more than anything. So we keep training, knowing we’re building ourselves into the person we want to become.
More to come...

Two legends, One testing morning. 📲 swipe right
Hiking through thick bush, light rain on and off, pumpy overhung climbing then top if off with a humid uphill hike back to the car. Sounds like a bit of a rough session, but what defines success anyway?
We got out, we got tested, we grew a little, we pulled hard and we enjoyed ourselves (mostly). Adversity plays an interesting role in adventure - I think it often contributes more to the "success" of an experience than we give it credit.
Get out and grow! ⚡️⚡️⚡️

People often say - it's not about the destination, it's about the journey.
I'm unsure about that .... a couple of times I've hiked to the pinnacle of a mountain and instead of seeing a stunning landscape all I could see was my hand in front of my face because of a thick sheet of fog.
The endurance of the journey certainly adds to the satisfaction of reaching the destination. But the destination sure puts the cherry on top.
Check out this Mount Castle cherry!

It’s hard to step outdoors and not feel a deep sense of awe.
Kilometres of extravagant cliff hallways. Quiet, towering palm trees. Creek beds filled with refined stones. Rhythmic conversations chirping overhead.
The bush is a beautiful world.
11/03/2021
Pressure has the power to bring you together or tear you apart.
Ever experienced one of these senarios?
You've been on a hike, you're hot, you're bothered, you're hungry. Or maybe you've experienced that gut wrenching feeling when one of your mate's has made a navigational error and added significant walking time to the trip. Or maybe you planned to hike in to a crag and your partner forgot their climbing shoes.
Adversity certainly is a catalyst for both good and bad growth. The pressure of the bush has a way of squeezing the best or the worst out of us. Speaking from experience.
However, neither growth can be achieved without a willingness. Imagine the kind of people we could become if we were willing to harness our adversities and choose to grow for the better.

The Optimistic Adventurer
Matt went to clear his head a couple of weeks ago on the Carnarvon Gorge hiking trails.
Poor guy didn't get far into his hike and got drenched - gear and all. You'll notice we only posted the sunny photos - haha. The rain flooded the creek above the stepping stone crossings, so he hung out under a palm tree and then the mens toilet, when the tree wouldn't hold out enough water. The things you do for adventure. Lucky he got a nice dry sleep in the hammock and a collection of stunning sunrise pics.
Definitely worth the trip!

Sleeping under the stars.
How could you crawl into a tent dome with a show like this. Ever tried a light weight hammock? Take it on your overnight hike. String it up between a couple of trees - badabing badabom.
Word on the street was, "I slept like a baby." 😂
03/03/2021
Carnarvon Gorge's rocky walls are still turning heads and dropping jaws.🌴
We recommend popping the 19.4km return Big Bend hike on your 2021 bucket list. Time to make up for all that quarantining Queensland. 👌

Wikiloc trail recording ... and go.
We went exploring recently in Alice Creek, zigg zagging through the valley from hopeful crag to hopeful crag looking for some solid rock to climb.
At one point we walked steeply down a hill and had to cross a creek along this skinny wobbly log. You know what they say....when life gives you logs - walk them. 😮
Probably took us 3-4 attempts to make it all the way accross. Fear but no tears this time friends 👌

You don’t always end up making it.
This was a failed hike in. I set out on an hike to find a track to the ridge line, but after encountering very dense overgrowth, then trying to circumvent it for an hour, realised it wasn’t going to happen...today that is.
So I plan to come back when I can with a head start (and maybe a machete 😉) and try again. Sure, I failed to make the ridge, but I got out, had a great time, and witnessed a moody sunset. All in all, pretty stoked.

Get the heck out!
After a monster week in the office a quick relief bouldering trip was a must. If you've ever done something exhillerating / heart pumping / physicallyy enjoyable - you know that after taste feeling in your blood. Tricky to describe but tangable at the time.
So pumped to get outside on the rock. Trips like these have gotta be a priority in a screen world.

New rock 👏
The guys have been checking out some unestablished crags in our area over the last couple months.
Here’s a sneak peak from the last trip.
P.s if you’ve got a cool adventure you’re planning let us know - we may just tag along and capture it. 👌

Got a bit inspired on a handful of stunning stacks today. 🤔 Also got absolutely blasted.😵
Nothing clears the mind quite like the mental overload of learning crack climbing 😅🤯

Balance!
“Everything in moderation” was the saying...and they were right! It keeps training fresh and the body balanced and conditioned in a variety of situations.
Working on grip strength and balance this week. 🤛 should be set for Slab climbing then eh!

It's been soooo cold lately 🥶 I'm all for grippy rock and zero sweat but "Feels like 1 degree" at 3pm and I can't feel my legs just isn't nice. Safe to say I'm frothing for spring!
Couple snaps from earlier in the year climbing down at the local.

Media that moves.
There’s something about sitting on the couch watching TV that gets me frustrated. There’s a term associated with the action that gets at it well: ‘Veg-out’ or expressed as a noun and fitting with the vegetable imagery: ‘Couch potato.’ When I find myself trying to switch off by watching a show, I get internally frustrated by the idea that I can feed my mind nonsense (a lot of mainstream media) and somehow be better off.
To be true, I don’t mind watching a show occasionally. Chernobyl, Stranger Things, Planet Earth and When They See Us have all been stunning shows I’ve enjoyed over the last few months.
S0 what’s the difference? Well for one - I’m in media, so I watch things from the perspective of a director and cinematographer. I’m soaking up narrative approaches and film-making perspectives and shot styles and moods. It’s a terrific learning opportunity...and a get out of jail free card ;)
But more importantly, for the part of me that is just watching for enjoyment, I aim to focus my energy on watching media that moves me. I don’t want to buy into the meaningless consumption of entertainment, and more significantly, buy into the lie that life is meant to be comfortable and easy and meet all of my needs. I don’t want to be the kind of person who can just ‘veg-out’ on the couch and dull my mind with media driven by cheap hooks and poor narrative. Media that encourages fake and distorts reality for the thrill of it.
I want to watch media that moves me and compels me to grow and change. I want to watch media that enlightens me to the world around me, that gives me greater perspective into other cultures, that helps me to understand other people more deeply.
As a production company, that’s exactly the media we want to create. We want to create media that challenges and transforms the way people think for the better. In particular, we create adventure documentaries to encourage people to get into the outdoors, get out of their comfort zone and embrace fear.
Here’s to media that contributes to our humanity by helping us to learn and reflect more deeply!
