💐 Happy Mothers Day!

Wondering where have I been?
Here... working behind the scenes on a select few client projects that are impactful for their business, rather than creating Confetti content just for the sake of it.

But also HERE, with my boys as we navigated finding an alternative to traditional childcare following my oldest son's health diagnosis in November last year. I never planned to take such a lengthy period of a reduced biz load, but having the space while we navigated a packed schedule of specialists and allied health supports along with finding an in-home care educator was where I needed to apply my focus.

I'm thrilled that we have found the perfect arrangement for my boys, which has now opened up my capacity to take on new projects. I'm excited to announce that I will be launching my programs in June and accepting new 1:1 client projects. If you're interested in working together, then send me a message as I'd love to chat! 💕

With 40,000+ students set to graduate with a Marketing degree this year 🧑‍🎓 It makes me wonder... what the flow-on effects will be when it comes to businesses valuing experience in the current economy. Will there be more instances of salary/rate gauging, or hiring and overloading inexperienced graduates that "can do the same thing, but for less pay"...
There's always a tension between everyone wanting to be paid their preferred rate for what they provide, but then also wanting to save money on outsourced services.
I graduated in 2012, so I've ridden the wave as the digital marketing landscape exploded over the past 12 years. And the nearly 2 decades of experience I have can't be taught in a lecture theatre.
But if an employer or client wants "all of your years and strategic ideas" but at a graduate rate then where does that leave us? 🦖☄️

What are the 'perks' of running your own business for you? For me, it's the buzz I get when I'm sharing my passion for how truly effective marketing can deliver profound results for any business in any industry, and also the flexibility of time.
~
What's that old saying "ask a busy person to do something, and it will get done". I now understand the sentiment behind this statement, and it's so profound to me as I wear the multiple hats of a mum of two, a business owner, a friend, a wife, full-time dishwasher stacker and clothes folder. I've always been a pro-level organised person, give me colour-coded lists and schedules any day - but I'm now a logistics Queen.

The luxury of working for myself, is that I am able to operate to my own schedule. If one of our son's appointments needs to be rescheduled, I can alter my working hours to accommodate. Yes there's still deadlines for clients to be met. But I don't need to 'clock the hours' or ask someone else for permission to take the time out to support the needs of myself and my family.

Serenette from Serenity Financial Planning is one of fave few that I choose to work with. And every time we chat it’s hard to stick to an agenda, the topic or just 1 cup of coffee.

Marketing is so much more than social or digital in isolation, and goes beyond just one point of connection with customers.

Baking at Christmas is my love language and it brings me so much joy to give homemade treats to friends and colleagues.

It’s a tradition that we started 7 years ago and one that has been even more important to continue now with 2 small humans on the team, as it’s a lesson in gifting without expectation.

2022 has been a big year... with many wins and hits, so I've decided to turn on the OoO a little earlier and take some time out to recalibrate on what I want to unfold in 2023.
•
It's been a tough year as a marketer, and small business owner/operator - working in a space where everyone is branding themselves as a marketing expert, social media guru or a business coach (without the quals, experience or runs on the board). And in a cluttered marketplace, where you hold faith that potential clients will follow through and seek quality over cheap... it can be hard to show up time and again.
•
So here's to 2022 where:
❣️I completed my Grad Cert in Psychology of Business
❣️Grew a tiny human
❣️Had less revenue and higher costs than any year prior
❣️Felt like I was failing in all spheres of my personal and business life
❣️Discovered a new level of resilience
❣️Invested in a group coaching program
❣️Realised I've over-invested and started cutting costs
❣️Built greater personal friendships and love for my husband
❣️Reached a new level of exhaustion
❣️Supported the launch and growth of a few aligned businesses
❣️Felt broke and broken for the first time in many years
❣️Showed up, every.damn.day.

This is a long post and if you've made it to here, then thank you.
Being in business isn't just about showing the wins, successes and highs on a curated feed. It can also be shining a light on the raw struggle, as I'm sure (hoping) that I'm not the only one going through this.

Grants of $5,000 are available to eligible small businesses to build basic capabilities and upgrade skills. With everything from website upgrades to strategic marketing projects to training and coaching sessions eligible for funding, we anticipate the grants will be very popular.

A better balance for my family is the core of my ‘why’ and values for the DC biz. It influences the work I do, and who I work with. So this time away from ‘the biz’ was fully supported by my amazing clients 🥰
