Tropical cyclone Kirrily crossing the Queensland coast tonight
Tropical Cyclone Kirrily is expected to continue strengthening as it tracks west southwest towards the Queensland coast.
Kirrily will cross the Queensland coast tonight, in the vicinity of Townsville, as a Category 2 system then weaken on Friday as it moves inland.
From Friday, Kirrily is likely to track further inland as a tropical low, resulting in heavy to intense rain to parts of the northern interior and western Queensland.
Queensland communities are advised to stay up to date with forecasts and warnings.
As of 10:05am AEST Thursday, Tropical Cyclone Kirrily has intensified to a Category 2 system.

A tropical low (05U) is slowly developing in the Coral Sea and is likely to become a tropical cyclone overnight Tuesday or during early Wednesday morning.
The system is expected to track southwest towards the east Queensland coast, and a coastal crossing is likely overnight Thursday between Cardwell and Airlie Beach. The chance of a severe tropical cyclone on landfall remains.
After the cyclone crosses the coast, it is then expected to weaken to a tropical low, move further inland and then south across central Queensland as a rain depression.
Queensland communities are advised to stay up to date with the latest forecasts and warnings.
