Indie Rock Café 10pm Monday nights (Sydney-time) on CoastFM 963 - With the aid of banter and brilliant music, we aim to entertain and enlighten all who wish to listen.

www.coastfm.org.au Indie Rock Café is a late night radio show on CoastFM 963, presented at CoastFM's (fictional) Rocker's Kitchen by the 'Indie Rocker' Matt McCaughey, on air every Monday night at 9pm and closing out Monday nights in style, playing any and every genre of music under the sun, as long as it's got melody and decent hooks:

The show has gotten praise from several artists, such as The

Rockefeller Frequency, The Kamikazi Thunderkats and also local talents Sons of Alamo, String Fiction and The Night among others. Lately, they have been starting to grow a fanbase in other parts of the world, particularly the United States, having earned the praise of Massachusetts Indie band Satellites Fall. The Dude of Diversity has been able to give Eastern Australia a reason to stay up, just a little while longer on Monday nights, or providing other parts of the world an easy start to their Monday morning, or winding down their Monday afternoon. "Indie Rock Café – bipolar, but strangely delicious’”

Hello there, please bear with us while we brush the dust off this page and disinfect it...

Okay then, time for an announcement. It was March 22, 2010 that Indie Rock Cafe went to air for the first time, and it was a innocent and promising time. We played music, we had guests, and while we weren't really as popular/well-liked as other shows at the time, we just carried on, because it worked for us.

There have been ups, and there have damn sure been some downs, but Rocker's Kitchen has always been there to enthrall and entertain, with the music that the mainstream either forgot or turned their noses at.

Tonight - we've reached a big time milestone - 10 years. Indeed, IRC has been on air every Monday night for a whole damn decade.

Unfortunately we can't do an elaborate celebration for it, because in the age of Corona, it would be irresponsible. So, we're just gonna do what we do best - Lament the state of the world, and play the music - what we do best.

We hope that you're all safe and healthy, and perhaps the live stream (www.coastfm.org.au) can relieve you of boredom.

Thank you all for sticking with us, and we hope to keep going strong for as long as we can. See y'all at 10pm.

Hello again, night dwellers.

Tonight's a special one, as this week's show ( #469) is our 9-Year Anniversary of doing this gig.

To anyone who's ever decided to try tuning in by a radio or the TuneIn app - I thank you. It's been a joy to play music to anyone who wanted to listen.

And so, we'll be doing it again tonight. See y'all at 9.

Greetings dear audience. Hope the heat hasn't gotten you down.

Unfortunately, as CoastFM are spending New Year's Eve programming our new EasyMix features for 2019, regrettably, there is no show this week.

However, the streak will live on, that means we've got an extra week to prepare for our next show, January 7th at 9pm.

Until then, thank y'all for taking the time over the last 8 years to give an eccentric weirdo your ears. Hope you've had some enjoyment out of it.

See ya next year.

Hello again. Long time no announcement, but tonight should be a good one.

This week, we celebrate the latest release from former-Ba*****ed Ladies founding member Steven Page, by playing "Discipline: Heal Thyself, Part II" in it's entirety. Melody, tongue-in-cheek lyrics and still plenty o'soul left over.

That's #444 in a nutshell, we hope you can find some time for this one. www.coastfm.org.au

We couldn't possibly talk about this album as eloquently as the band themselves. Why try? (I'm gonna guess Sparky typed this one...)

Anyways, to celebrate 10 years of Universes we'll be spinning the album in it's entirety. Plus some other Rock, Hip-Hop, R&B goodness from time gone by.

We'll see you again at 9pm. www.coastfm.org.au

Hi guys, I’m turning 10 today 🙂 In 2008 my parents hired a beach shack for some reason and tried to figure out how to make a rock record…Instead they sat around with bad haircuts, drank cheap beer, played UNO, pretended to be important, fooled around and made me.
I grew up thinking people didn’t like me but then as I’ve gotten older (yes, i’m only 10) people tell me all the time that im their fav in our family…so ahh suck s**t to my brothers and sisters!
Life has been pretty good so far. I have a lot of friends. My parents are lame. I can’t wait to finish school. My older sister Day One likes to tell me that she’s older, cooler but I’m more popular at school 😉. She tries too hard.
I have a younger brother who is half Swedish..he’s never had a name tho and kisses stuff at night or something Swedish like that. Weird kid. Loves meatballs.
Most people know my younger sister Marchfire, she’s ok i guess, but she was born in LA and drinks a lot of mocha lattes even though she’s only like 5. She’s a bit of a hippy or kinda christian or something. Light this, light that…yawn. She was a bit of an overachieving pop star when she was born and likes to remind us.
My baby brother Brace is screaming and carrying on agaaaaaaaain this morning. Hes an angry little baby. I don’t know why he’s so frustrated all the time.
I think its mum and dads fault.
Us kids are all so different and we reckon its coz they never have ANY idea what they are doing. urrrghhh old people are idiots.
Oh we have a new brother or sister on the way too. Will probs be a crying whinging little soft pop baby poo machine. How annoying! Anyway off to school now, thanks for listening, Universes.

How goes it, fellow night-dwellers. Well, I understand today happens to be Canada Day (which the "Great White North"-eners have only just begun).

Any excuse to get us to play Rush, The Trews, Ba*****ed Ladies etc. is always welcomed.

Seriously though, plenty of other great material including some Stone Temple Pilots, per a request we actually received last week. (See? We listen and we try).

Anyways, see y'all at 9pm. www.coastfm.org.au

Tonight for #432 we'll be having a very special tribute, to an album that gave me a purpose.

June 24, 2008 - Shinedown gave us "The Sound Of Madness", and took their already-commanding legacy to a new height. After the first two albums, there were some changes, in the band's lifestyles and the lineup itself. They recruited new members, Brent Smith decided it was time to clean up his life, the rest is history.

But the music...this was an album that I was enlightened by. It was a perfect album, something I had never experienced before. From Devour, right through to Call Me, this was excellent, all the way around. To this day, it's one of my three favourite albums of all time. I've bought multiple copies of the thing and I'll be raising my child on this album when the time comes.

In fact, I'd say TSOM raised the bar a little *too* high, because no matter how grand the follow-ups were ("Threat To Survival" not-withstanding...), they just can't touch this one.

Happy 10th Birthday, "The Sound Of Madness". This week's Indie Rock Cafe is dedicated to you.

This weekend, music lost another legend.

In 2002, after Dave Williams passed, I decided to check out some of the music he grew up loving, one of which was Pantera. Official Live: 101 Proof kicked so much ass, and was a gateway to different metal and hard-rock artists. They would always be my metal fix whenever the teenage angst called for it. I even stuck around for what Damageplan and Hellyeah had in store.
..and now Vinnie Paul has left us. He's gone home and he's reunited with Dimebag and Dave.

Sir, you left behind a legacy and *so* many more tributes much more meaningful than mine, but still I thank you for the metal and the music you created and inspired.

Needless to say, tonight we'll be throwing down some tracks in your honour, but for now, enjoy hangin' with the family again. I suspect he's looking pretty damn peaceful and content right now...

Rest In Peace, Vinnie Paul.

Hello again,

So it's #431 this week and we've got more of music's most under-appreciated on tap, as well as some that are rightly remembered.

Also, since it just made it's presence known on Friday, we shall be playing a couple of tracks from Mike Shinoda's (Linkin Park) debut solo album "Post Traumatic".

Should be a fun night in, better than cold grip of Winter, no?

'sup.

Monday has arrived, so as we prepare to face another week, we've gotten another night's worth of lovely aural tones ready for the (most likely) suspecting masses.

This week, since it celebrates it's 5-year anniversary, our 'Honorary Album' is 'Make Good Choices' by Harvey Danger frontman Sean Nelson.

Plenty of other grand old tracks that go against the show's name as well, so it should be another fun and awkward night.

Join us, won't you?

What up, everyone?

This week it's #428 and our month of 'Album Listening Parties' wraps up tonight with Hoobastank's latest (and quite divisive) album "Push Pull".

Their page will let you know where you can buy, but tonight we'll give you that little more incentive to give it a go.

We're on again at 9pm. 96.3fm | www.coastfm.org.au

Hello again, night dwellers everywhere. It's #427 tonight and this week we'll be spinning another new album in it's entirety. An album by Spacehog's lead singer/bassist Royston Langdon.

Earlier in May, his project LEEDS had it's first release "Everything's Dandy!", so we're gonna spin the thing from 1 to 9.

Get your digital download at https://www.roystonlangdon.com/

Anyways, plenty of other tracks on tap for the night as well. Hope to tune your acquaintance at 9pm.

Good evening...

For #425, in honour of one of our favourite bands' sixth album release, we'll be playing Shinedown's "ATTENTION ATTENTION" from start to finish. Matt's managed to go the entire weekend without hearing the thing so he'll be going in blind.

The things he'll do for this show... oh, plenty of other bangers tonight as well so it'll be more than a 'one and done' show. If you're still unable to shake off the Monday stress, come along and we'll try helping you out.

ATTENTION ATTENTION

An announcement, and now an album title.

Yup, one of our favourites Shinedown have just dropped their sixth album worldwide today. The concept album has already been receiving rave reviews, although we'd argue it doesn't even need them. We encourage you pick this one up, and we're happy to see them rise to the upper echelon of musical notoriety...Stateside at least.

As for us in Australia, our host has decided to try a concept of it's own. Matt's going cold turkey on the album until this Monday's show, and then we're playing "ATTENTION ATTENTION" in it's entirety, with the weirdo giving his honest thoughts as we go along.

Plenty of other musical madness as well, so this should be quite fun. We hope you've got some time free for this one. Roll on Monday. www.coastfm.org.au

Hello again, dear 'customers'...

Well, we're a week away from being here for a staggering 8 years. Not sure if we plan on celebrating it yet...

Regardless, it's a sea of eclectic tunes on hand at the kitchen for #417 this week. Fozzy, Nate Myers, Primus and even some Death Cab For Cutie among others so it should be a lovely song cauldron for the masses tonight.

You know the drill, 9pm, 96.3FM and www.coastfm.org.au. See you all soon.
