Frankston Public Surgical Centre is the first of its kind in Victoria 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Frankston Public Surgical Centre is the first of its kind in Victoria.

It's a public hospital dedicated 100% to non-emergency surgeries – like knee and hip replacements, colonoscopies and gynaecological and orthopaedic surgery.

Unlike most of our hospitals, Frankston Public Surgical Centre doesn't have an emergency department – meaning the entire team working there is focussed solely on the surgeries that are booked for each day.

I dropped in today with Mary-Anne Thomas MP and Paul Edbrooke MP to meet the team that'll be getting about 9,000 surgeries done each year.

And the best news - the first one is tomorrow morning.

Let’s get the conversation going at Frankston City’s Chatty Cafes ☕️🍰 North West Ward Cr Sue Baker visited Karingal PLACE Neighbourhood Centre to launch the initiative, which involves a space to have a chat that may brighten someones day.

Cr Baker said: “The Chatty Cafe initiative aims to reduce social isolation and loneliness by encouraging and creating opportunities for people to interact through conversation. “The aim is to kick start conversations, get people chatting to increase social connections within a community and possibly reduce loneliness along the way.”

Cr Baker added that the Chatty Cafe, which will operate at Karingal PLACE on Wednesdays from 10am to noon, provides an open invitation for residents to get together and have a chat over a tea or coffee.

“Thanks to the Chatty Cafe initiative, connections and friendships are made – crucially, it provides a social outlet,” she said. Council Coordinator Neighbourhood Inclusion, Fiona Cann, said isolation and loneliness and are significant factors in society, and this was magnified by the COVID lockdowns.

“This initiative is important post COVID assisting people re-establishing connections and create new connections with their local community in a safe, warm, inclusive and welcoming space,” she said.

Ms Cann said that volunteers are needed to support the initiative, adding those interested can phone Karingal PLACE on 8786 6650 or email [email protected] for more information.

The Chatty Cafe initiative is also supported by Twisted Sista, Station St Mall, Frankston, and Rosie’s Cafe, Culcairn Drive, Frankston South. For more details, please visit https://chattycafeaustralia.org.au/

On 1 September at approximately 10am police, conducted a search warrant in Station Street, Frankston where they seized:

- 23 imitation fi****ms

- 14 foldable knives

- One hatchet

- One sword

A 46-year-old Frankston man was arrested and is expected to be charged on summons with selling a controlled weapon to a child, sell or advertise prohibited weapons and sell or advertise for sale imitation fi****ms.

“Any form of weapon, be it knives or imitation fi****ms have the potential to cause significant alarm in the community.

“When used in serious and violent crime, they can tear families apart, terrify victims and threaten the wellbeing of society.

“The Frankston community can rest assured that we will continue to thoroughly investigate any reports of weapons being sighted, sold, or advertised and do everything in our power to ensure such weapons never make it to the streets.” - Frankston Acting Inspector Ian Pregnell.

🚨 Detectives from Frankston are appealing for information after thieves broke into a building site and took several excavators for an expensive and dangerous joy ride overnight.

Police were alerted to the incident by a witness who reported an excavator being driven down Beach Street about 2am.

When the witness confronted the offenders, he had to take evasive action to avoid being hit by the excavator before one offender asked him for co***ne and yelled, “welcome to Frankston.”

The offenders have then driven down Stanley Street and dumped the excavator in Queen Street.

Enquiries by detectives has revealed a building site on the corner of Fletcher Street and Cranbourne Road was broken into shortly before the excavator was seen in the street.

It appears several offenders gained entry to the site and stole multiple excavators causing damage.

The excavators appear to have been driven around within the site before one crashed through the site fence.

The excavator that was found dumped is believed to have also been driven up onto a footpath and used to damage a medical centre fence on the corner of Beach and Stanley streets.

Frankston Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.

It is anticipated there is considerable damage to building works and equipment at the initial building site.

A man and teenager have been charged after handing themselves in after an attempted theft from motor car in Patterson Lakes last night.

Moorabbin Crime Investigation unit detectives charged a 20-year-old Frankston North man and a 17-year-old Carrum Downs boy this morning with:

- Theft of motor vehicle
- Reckless conduct endangering life
- Tresspass
- Criminal Damage
- Traffic offences

The man is due to front Frankston Magistrates’ court and the boy is due to front a Children’s court later today.

An alert resident allegedly raised the alarm after they disturbed the males trying to break into a car in Hannalore Avenue in Patterson Lakes about 10.30pm.

The man called Triple Zero (000) and attempted to follow the pair in his own car before he was allegedly rammed and threatened with a weapon.

Police coordinated resources on the ground with assistance of the Airwing as the car travelled on Peninsula Link, Eastlink and the Monash out to Altona.

The older model Toyota was allegedly travelling at speeds up to 140-150km/h before it turned and continued to head back towards the south-eastern suburbs.

The pair, who it was allegedly threw items from their car at times, travelled back along the Monash, to Eastlink and then onto Cheltenham Road.

Detectives successfully deployed stop sticks in Chelsea before the duo continued south on Nepean Highway.

As police closed in on the pair, they allegedly drove into the Frankston police station carpark and got out of the allegedly stolen vehicle with their hands up.

23/08/2022

Mornington Peninsula Shire is excited to announce Melbourne artist Julian Clavijo will be creating a thought-provoking and impactful mural about climate change on the wall of Ritchies IGA in Hastings (opposite the Hastings library).

Julian, a nationally and internationally renowned award winning artist, was selected after a comprehensive EOI process in May this year.

Julian is a public artist, painter and sculptor. After graduating in 2011, he started exploring the possibility of translating his photorealistic oil painting technique on to mural painting at any scale. By mixing spray painting skills, commonly used in the world of street art, and the traditional brush work techniques almost resembling classical fresco murals, Julian achieves striking hyper-realistic results by painting murals at monumental scales in public spaces.

His art has both an environmental theme and empowers young people to visualise a world where they can make a difference.

Julian recognises the need for urgent change: “we, the global society, need a collective consciousness to bring back the balance in nature through sustainable living.”

His work will start in early October and is anticipated to be completed by December 2022.

It was a low blow for MINTY Greenhouse - botanical living on the weekend with the small family owned business hit with a smash and grab in the early ours of this morning...

Well, this was a Monday morning blow that we just didn’t need 😭

They smashed, they grabbed. 💰 Luckily, no were harmed in the process.

If you don’t know us, we’re just a really small, family run business. We live and work locally, which means we directly support our local community and economy. We love our shop and we love our customers and community. This one hurts real bad 💔 and I’m going to ask you for a favour…

We need your support now more than ever. Obviously there is a fairly substantial cost associated with this break in. One that we have to foot, not the crims unfortunately. We’d reeeeally appreciate it if you could tell your friends about us if they don’t know us! Keep us in mind for your gift giving. Pop in if you’re in the area and come and chat plants with us. Shop online. Share this post. 💚💚💚

I don’t want to bang on about what we already know, but it is so important to continue to and . It’s honestly our bread and butter.

Okay, rant over 😅 Thanks for reading this far! Manifesting positive vibes for the week ahead ⭐️ 🌱

Detectives from Frankston Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) have arrested one man and seized several 3D printed handguns this week as part of an investigation into firearm trafficking and manufacturing across Melbourne’s south-east.

Following this arrest, police searched a factory in Carrum Downs on 11 May, recovering two handguns, including one manufactured by a 3D printer. A 32-year-old Carrum Downs man was arrested and charged with prohibited person in charge of fi****ms and possess a drug of dependence. He was remanded at the time, before being later sentenced to four months imprisonment at Frankston Magistrates Court.

“As police, we are constantly evolving to combat new and emerging trends used by criminals. We’ve been monitoring the issue of 3D printed fi****ms for a number of years and there are serious repercussions associated with this kind of activity." says Senior Sergeant Stephen Fyffe.
