Hi everyone!

It's been just over 2 years since finishing our film Positive and after 7 film festival selections alongside 5 awards, we've decided it's time to throw it online for all of you to see!

It feels a bit strange talking about it so many years after we finished working on it, but thank you to all the people that supported and helped us in making this film. Overall we couldn't be happier with the final result and are excited to finally put it out in the world for you to watch!

Exciting news for our film 'Positive' for the month of June! Our film was selected for Be Epic London International Film Festival, A festival based in London in its 6th year running! Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions, none of the crew will be able to attend. But if any of our friends across the pond want to attend the festival in August, tickets are available now on their website!

Positive was also awarded a Semi-Finalists award from Changing Face IFF for its submission!

Thanks to both festivals for their recognition! It's truly appreciated!

Exciting news from our selection into DIFFS - Discover Int Fest of Film. Positive won best short film, best lead actress, and best lead actor! We're incredibly stoked about the awards, and a special shout out to Jade Prechelt and Luke Corrin Care for once again being recognised for the unreal performance they gave in the film!

We'd also like to publically announce that our new film 'To my girls' which we have been working on the last few months, wrapped on the production phase last Sunday!

'To My Girls' is a drama following emotionally distant siblings struggling to process the sudden death of their mother.

Jade Prechelt will be making another appearance with SunnySide Productions in this film, while the incredibly talented Bella rose joins us for her first appearance with us!

Positive has been fortunate enough to be selected in some more film festivals!
It has been selected for Byron Underground Film Festival, which will be taking place at Palace Cinema in Byron Bay early next month!
We were also selected in DIFFS - Discover Int Fest of Film & Story! An online festival taking place in just a week's time!

Very excited to announce that The Next Level International Film festival has awarded us with 2 awards! We received an award for 'Best Student Film', even more exciting, Jade Prechelt received 'The Rising Star' award for her role as the protagonist "Alex"!

Due to covid restrictions, this year's festival will be held entirely online, which means anyone from around the world can tune in for the screenings! Will post the details for this in the following days.

Introducing our Editor and Colourist, Marie Gatt!

Marie is a 20-year-old editor and colorist, she was drawn to post-production because she enjoys being the final person to make the film. With editing there is a limitless amount of directions you can take the film based on the raw footage.

She chose to work on ‘Positive’ firstly because she has worked with Matt as a Director before and knows that the 2 of them work well together. Marie enjoys working with a Director who is fully devoted to the project right until the end into post-production. Her second reason for choosing ‘Positive’ is for the story. Although the narrative is quite extreme, everyone can relate to feeling trapped in a situation.

As this film’s editor and colourist, Marie aims to make the audience empathise with the sense of entrapment that Alex feels in the film. Through the colour grading she aims to take the beautiful, sunny rural setting of ‘Positive’ and alter the tones and colours to tell the difficult story of addiction and abuse.

Introducing our Production Designer, Claudia Di Pasquale!

Claudia is a 19-year-old filmmaker, specialising in editing and production design, who has a passion for creating films that are both spectacular and entertaining, but contain important messages.

From the moment Claudia was pitched Positive, she was instantly drawn to the film. This was not only because it addresses and builds awareness to some very controversial but very real issues in today’s society, but also because it’s overall message, “that doing what is right is rarely what’s easiest”.

As the production designer on this film, Claudia wanted to ensure the production design was authentic and true to real drug addict’s living conditions. She didn’t want it to be cliche or over-the-top, instead she wanted to enhance the documentary and fly-on-the-wall atmosphere the Sunnyside Productions team was striving for this film to possess, hence creating a sense of realism.

Introducing our Cinematographer, Phoebe Green!

Since a young age, Phoebe, now 19-years-old, has always been enthusiastic when it comes to operating a camera. Getting her hands on one whenever she can get the chance, her skills in this practice have developed profoundly, allowing her shoot well composed, yet meaningful visuals.

She was drawn to shoot Positive due to the fact the themes explored within the script displayed a message worth sharing, as well as clear character motivation. This allowed Phoebe to collaborate with writer, director and producer, Matthew Kaukiainen, and create shots that reflected the events taking place. This was all in aim to give the audience an immersive viewing experience.

As the films cinematographer, Phoebe hopes to present viewers with an array of shots that visually showcase the pain Alex is suffering. As Alex’s issues slowly heighten throughout the film, viewers can expect to see explicit shots that visually engage the viewer through its audio cues.

Introducing our 1st Assistant Director, Joshua Real!

Joshua Real is a 19-year-old australian-filipino filmmaker who has always had a passion for editing as he has made short comedy videos for friends and family since young age.

What drew Josh to work with the Sunnyside Production crew, was not only the team itself, but the film itself.

“The members in Sunnyside Productions are all people, I feel, I easily work well with. As for the script, I've always enjoyed films that emphasise on single moments of harrowing drama.”

For this project, Josh has taken on the role of 1st Assistant Director, which revolves around ones ability to schedule the shooting days, note and breakdown the scenes for efficient filming, and ensure the set runs smoothly.

Introducing our Writer, Director and Producer, Matthew Kaukiainen!

Matthew Kaukiainen is a 21-year-old writer/director based in Brisbane, Australia. He has a love for character driven films.

Matt wanted to produce a film that followed the explicit theme, drug addiction. From growing up in a small country town, Matt had been exposed to the ugly side of drug addiction, and how it can affect one's mental state.

Matt wishes to take on a performance driven directorial approach, to give the audience an authentic viewing experience.
