Avoid the MISSING FILE Message
The missing File message can be avoided by consolidating your projects before archiving.

This tutorial will help you understand the reasons to consolidate before you Archive your library.

Consolidating is a process where Final Cut Pro searches all of your computer's storage areas for files that are not contained in the Final Cut Library and then adds those missing files to the library so that after you Archive and subsequently reopen the Library, there WON'T be a missing file message.

Color Grading on Steroids

Previously I reviewed a set of Final Cut Pro plugins that added Lightroom style slider effects that are available directly within the Final Cut Pro interface.
There is a new offering from the same developer, Eric Lenz, that increases color correction functionality on steroids. In fact there are now over 30 plugins on offer. Including re-nameable adjustment layers, that I will tell you about at the end of this video.

Some plugins are free - Like Exposure control, and amazingly the indispensable Channel Mixer which is also free.

Save Disk Space on your Mac - Optimize Mac storage

No matter whether you follow my Channel for Final Cut Pro, Apple Motion, or iMovie, you’ll certainly be using a Mac computer, so this tutorial is a must for you to view.
Files take up space on your computer and that disk space fills up all too quickly, particularly with Final Cut Pro, Motion, or iMovie files.
So keeping as much space free is imperative
Unbeknown to you, there are many files cluttering your internal disk that you just don’t know about - I promise you will be able to save space after viewing this tutorial.
I thought I was organized with my file management, but I found over 20GB of files to delete as well as many more files that can be removed from my internal disk and archived saving further space on my internal disk

Dupe Detection - Duplicate Ranges in Final Cut Pro 10.6.2
Duplication detection or Dupe detection as it is commonly known has been a much-requested feature in Final Cut Pro for some time, but I have to say Apple has come up with the most useful way to use dupe detection than any other video editor.

Dupe detection is simply a way of checking that you don’t have any duplicates of a clip in your timeline.

It is really important for long-form videos, like weddings or full-length movies or documentaries because it’s so easy to use the same clip twice.

The Final Cut Pro version of dupe detection searches out duplicates of Video clips, Audio clips, Stills, and even Compound clips.

New Storyboards and Magic Movie features in iMovie.

Today there were 5 updates to Apple’s video editing applications.

1/ The most significant changes are to iMovie iOS and iPadOS. iMovie 3.0 introduces two new major features - Storyboards and Magic Movie which create Magic Movies to get you started. It opens the Photos library were you can select photos and videos that automatically identify dialogs, people’s faces, actions and then stitches them together into a movie with transitions, music and titles. You can rearrange however you want.

There are 20 different styles with animations, a soundtrack and transitions. When you switch from one style to another, your video is automatically regenerated. You can pick your own music to as well add a voice over.

The movie can then be imported into iMovie for Mac, iPad or even Final Cut Pro.

2/ Final Cut Pro is updated to version 10.6.2 with new features that have been rumoured for a couple of weeks now - Duplicate Detection, Voice Isolation, and optimized for M1 Max and M1 Ultra. The new iMovie 3.0 Magic Movie can be directly imported.

3/ Motion version 5.6.1 introduces a new “Sliced Scale” filter and is optimized for M1 Max and M1 Ultra

4/ iMovie for Mac 10.3.2 allows the import of Magic Movies from iOS iMovie 3.0

5/ Compressor 4.6.1 adds features tp view a videos transparency, the aspect ratio of an output and modified source media properties in the preview viewer. It can rotate and flip videos. Also optimized for M1 Max and M1 Ultra.
