Having the freedom to work as a digital nomad from Tokyo is something I truly appreciate. If anything has come out of the past two years is that so many people are great at communicating online and it has made my job so much easier!
I love being around clients in person but I am grateful for clients putting trust in me and Ellie Iris to elevate their Airbnb’s from abroad. It also means I can work with clients from other countries. I am always open to working with clients who may not be in Australia, my work transcends design disciplines and counties.

Investing in your short term rental’s branding makes you more money! Instead of taking a generic design from Canva or creating a logo set on word, set yourself apart from other listings by working with a specialist design team.
Have you gone onto Instagram to look at a listing and been discouraged from booking because the hosts don’t seem to care about how they showcase their property? You’d be surprised by how many guests now check all social platforms before making a booking.

Does anyone else feel guilty when they step away from work and socials for a few weeks and constantly feel like they should still be glued to their desk, all while trying to ignore everything going on in their personal life..? Hopefully, it’s not just me!
I hate the added stress around social content posting and always needing to be glued to your phone or computer. 😖
I was on a roll with work and website updates when we got Covid then moved house. During the week of unpacking and settling in, I also went on a cheeky last-minute trip to the snow here in Japan, most likely the last one this season. But now I am getting back to work and it sure does feel great being in a new studio space.
I hope you are in a position where you can step away from work and manage the organised chaos that sometimes comes your way. I’m still learning to not get so hung up over it all.

When you walk into Ikea with beautiful inspiration images that look nothing like your current house A girl can dream!
Even though our new place will not have high ceilings, wide doors for light and wall niches, inspiration images are always good to have when deciding which pieces to purchase and add to your space.
I went through and selected the overlapping features of my Japandi board for the lounge room and those are what I will be purchasing or doing a DIY to achieve this look.
A key tip when furnishing your Airbnb is to collect inspiration images to ensure the pieces you purchase tie in with your cohesive aesthetic. You don't want to regret quick and possibly costly purchases.
It’s been a long time coming but we finally move next week and I can’t wait to make our home in Japan more “us” and less temporary.
Now to shut off the computer and go outside before I end up spending all night working on website tweaks. Happy Friday x

Currently out of the studio and on Holidays. ✨❄️ So far we have spent time with our adoptive family here in Japan, had lots of good food and done a few day trips.

Elevating your Airbnb doesn’t have to be hard or overwhelming. The aim is to add to your listing, to create more bookings, and to give you as a host more security.
Just by adding personal touches for your guests, they are assured that you care about the investment in your small business. Because having an Airbnb or short-term rental is like having a business. You want to make money while also providing a great service and experience for your guests. Otherwise, you wouldn’t bother being on this hosting journey!
In the new year, I will be releasing templates for you to elevate your rental quickly and efficiently. As much as I love working 1 on 1 directly with clients, I know some hosts want to do it themselves but just need the base to get started.

The initial concept floor plans for the Queenslander bathroom renovation project. This project won’t be kicking off until next year but we are coming close to finalising all the details and this is where we started.
The first image is the proposed new floor plan and swipe across to see the original bathroom floor plan. The key issue with the current bathroom is it is very outdated and in need of a revamp to match the rest of the home.
A key constraint for the design of the bathroom is the lack of space and accessibility to services due to the stairs running below the vanity and the exterior walls of the house on the bath side of the floor plan.
The key new addition to the bathroom is creating a shower bath as the current tiny shower and built-in bath has served the family well but as this bathroom is the main family bathroom of the house, there needs to be a bath. There is no room for a separate free-standing bath and shower so we have settled on a built-in combo.
I will share more drawings like elevations so that you can get a sense of what look we are going for but here is a snippet of the floor plan layout.
I will also be working on the downstairs bathroom and the laundry.

Lots of people seem to be putting up their Christmas trees early this year! Everyone is looking forward to a great Christmas period with family and friends. 🎄
In saying that, have you thought about how you can bring Christmas cheer to your Airbnb or holiday home? I have put together styling tips on how to decorate your Airbnb or holiday rental for the Christmas period.
Key tips to add classic Christmas cheer without overdoing it are:
✦ Stick to neutral colours, greenery and texture.
✦ Think about doing some DIY projects instead of buying cheap decorations.
✦ Small gifts for your guests are appreciated at this time.
It shouldn’t be hard or expensive to add some simple Christmas decorations and ensure your guests have a great stay at your property over the Christmas period.

Inspiration for our kitchen in Japan. We are renting so we won’t get to achieve everything but that’s okay. The key non-negotiable: Storage… Common rental property kitchens here consist of one side of built-in under sink cabinets, stovetop, sink etc. No other cupboards.. so I am thinking of a free-standing shelving unit or workers bench to house our oven, crockery and be a food prep station.
I miss having a large kitchen in Aus and you wouldn’t think you’d take bench space and a dishwasher for granted! It is a whole different experience cooking in a small space and as we are here for a number of years it is worth investing in and creating a space we love.
Enjoy your Sunday and hopefully, you don’t spend as much time as me scrolling through Pinterest and DIY websites.
Ps. I also miss Bunnings.

We have all seen the very generic google printed info signs and welcome books in the hotels and Airbnbs we have stayed in. Small details which are easily overlooked make an impact on your guest’s experience.
These small adjustments, the extra thought and, consideration are worth adding to your space. Each touchpoint can be customised to suit your branding.

You want to ensure you are SELLING your space to your potential guests and drab photography is a major mood killer. The human brain processes images 60,000 times faster than text! This is why having great show-stopping and intriguing images of your rental is crucial to attract new guests and to help convey how it feels to stay at your property. The logo encompasses coming together and creating a balanced lifestyle. We also developed the custom leopard print pattern, as it is a big part of Mathilde’s personality and was a must to include! The aim of the logo was to be professional yet approachable and evoke the feelings of explosive energy, femininity and fun.
