Who would you be thinking about if you got shot?
We all have something to live for.
Our own mortality is something we probably don't often think about, until we're confronted by something like the death of someone close to us or life-threatening event.
If the stakes were high, what's the one thing you would focus on to keep you focused on pulling through?
Derrick McManus has been in this situation and has developed a whole program around human durability. We don't need to become pesimists in order to truly prepare for the worst. It might just be the thing that saves us.

How much space do you have left in your emotional bucket?
How's your emotional bucket today? What does that even mean?
It's easy to get swept away in a good analogy (just ask Andy, he loves his markers in the sand and deck chairs!) but how does it actually fit your story?
Derrick McManus, talking about Human Durability on Reframe Of Mind explains that our bucket also contains processing space for what's being thrown into the bucket. If we fill the bucket up too much, we enter a space of overwhelm and find it difficult to process much at all, if anything. Maybe we 'snap'.
So what are some things you can do to keep that processing space available? Might it be making strategy for something speicific? Could it be making a list of things you need strategies for or simply to come back to later when you know you will have the energy to pay attention to it?

Why we need to aim for durability not resilience.
Have you considered that your comfort zone is where you are the most durable?
When we make a contingency to be able to bounce back after a crash, we usually consider bouncing back from the very basics, which is a point of fragility.
Derrick McManus speaks in this episode of Reframe Of Mind about enjoying our comfort zones and making making them our safe place to slide back into as we step out and try new things.
Failure does not have to entails starting from scratch all over again.

Why expressing vulnerability is a strength
A shout out to Brene Brown, whose work shows us just how important vulnerability is, and Derrick McManus has a lot of experience in his own journey of vulnerability.
Those of us old enough to remember PM Bob Hawke will remember the ribbing he got from people far and wide for publicly crying, but that act of expressing emotion is important to reduce stress and to help us connect and relate to each other, which is a much stronger position than "nah, I'm right thanks."

We may never, hopefully, ben is that situation, but are there other circumstances in which you know optimism might help to keep you going?
