FLORENCE Constructing a new perspective: celebrating women in building and
construction at another successful luncheon.

The Master Builders Association of New South Wales (MBANSW) in conjunction with Equifax, hosted the latest FLORENCE Luncheon on Friday 1 September, spearheading support for women in the construction industry. The day was held at The Grounds, Eveleigh where over 200 guests gathered to celebrate the achievements of women in construction.

The event welcomed a diverse group of guests, including; guest speaker Emma Carey author of “The Girl Who Fell From The Sky”, along with representatives from the Office of the NSW Building Commissioner, Safework NSW, and the latest cover
star of FLORENCE Magazine, Ava Li from Noble Home Builders.

Emma Carey moved and motivated the audience with her story on surviving a parachute malfunction while skydiving over the Swiss Alps. Having reclaimed the
use of her legs through sheer determination, Emma's story kindled a profound appreciation for life's every moment.

FLORENCE is an MBANSW initiative, helping to construct a new perspective for all those who work in, the building and construction industry.

Emma was on a skydiving trip in her 20s that went horribly wrong when her parachute failed during her descent and Emma fell and hit the ground, losing the use of her legs.

Her story imparts a strong sense of resilience, when in a true miracle, she was able to learn to use her legs again. Above all else her experience profoundly transformed her perspective, allowing her to cherish every day of life.

"I had always expected skydiving to be a lot scarier but I can honestly say it was one of the best moments of my life. My daydream soon turned into my worst nightmare when the free-fall didn’t seem to stop... Flash forward three and a half years, I am genuinely happier than I have ever been."

In 2013 Emma found herself completing her lifelong dream, Skydiving out of a helicopter over the Swiss Alps, and in a single moment her life changed forever. A daydream soon became a nightmare when both the parachute and emergency parachute failed upon descent. When the free-fall didn’t seem to stop, Emma hit the ground and had lost the use of her legs. This surreal story imparts Emma’s undeniable sense of fortitude as she miraculously learnt to use her legs again after years. Above all else her experience profoundly transformed her perspective, allowing her to cherish every day of life.

Thank you so much to everyone who joined us at our MBA FLORENCE Luncheon.

We had an amazing day on Friday the 28th of April, with Denita Wawn and Brian Seidler providing their insight and updates on the industry, and Lisa Greenberg who spoke of the trials and tribulations of being an alcoholic. She was engaging and open when discussing her personal journey and her “happiness hacks” to help her to now appreciate every day of her life.

We had 237 people attend, and it was a joy to host another fantastic Florence Luncheon.

Lisa Greenberg has had her fair share of life changing experiences after battling with alcoholism. After appearing on 60 Minutes, Lisa is now ready to share her story of personal struggle that almost took her life. A battle with disease that affected not only her, but her children, and husband Todd Greenberg (former NRL boss, head of the Australian Cricketers’ Association). Alcohol occupies a significant place in Australian culture and Lisa provides a unique approach to living our best lives ONE DAY AT A TIME as a sober, strong, and inspiring woman.
