My latest yarn for SBS Dateline has out of Jamaica. How the republic debate is playing out in the Caribbean, which a history of slavery is shaping discourse.

Slavery and the monarchy are historically intertwined in Jamaica. Its prime minister has said it will hold a referendum on becoming a republic by 2025. But the idea is far from universally supported by the island nation’s citizens.

Some belated pics from the marvellous Nowrouz celebration last month at the Powerhouse Museum in Ultimo. Nowrouz is an ancestral festivity marking the first day of spring and the renewal of nature. Celebrated for over 3000 years in the Balkans, the Black Sea Basin, the Caucasus, Central Asia, and the Middle East, it promotes peace and solidarity between generations and within families, as well as reconciliation and neighbourliness.
