Let's ignite the flames of curiosity, kindled by Raman's legacy, and embark on a journey of discovery, where every question sparks a new adventure into the mysteries of the universe.
Pluto was discovered on February 18, 1930, by astronomer Clyde Tombaugh at the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Tombaugh's diligent search for a ninth planet beyond Neptune's orbit led to his historic discovery.
Pluto, initially classified as the ninth planet in our solar system, sparked immense curiosity and fascination among scientists and the general public alike. However, in 2006, Pluto's planetary status was redefined by the International Astronomical Union (IAU), and it was designated as a "dwarf planet" due to its small size and different characteristics from the traditional gas giants and terrestrial planets. Despite this reclassification, Pluto continues to captivate astronomers due to its unique features, including its elongated orbit, icy surface, and intriguing moon system.
The New Horizons spacecraft's flyby in 2015 provided valuable insights into Pluto's composition and geological features, unveiling a world of frozen plains, towering mountains, and potential cryovolcanoes.
Pluto remains an enigmatic world at the edge of our solar system, inviting further exploration and study to unravel its mysteries.
