We just walked from deep in the Flinders Ranges to hear the extraordinary news that Patagonia will create a philanthropic trust to use their profits for environmental causes. We have always admired Patagonia’s ethos guided by its founder, the visionary Yvon Chouinard. It has put a spring in our step.

“Days of slow walking are very long: they make you live longer, because you have allowed every hour, every minute, every second to breathe, to deepen, instead of filling them up by straining the joints…”

We featured Tarn Shelf Circuit in Tasmania way back in issue 2.

"At a length of 15.6 kilometres, the circuit takes you through distinct climate zones, each with extensive floral diversity manifested by a range of vegetation types. Alpine woodlands form a canopy of Tasmanian snow gums.

Meanwhile, morphological diversity toward the mid-layer is embodied by striking pandani. With their wavy trunks and rich leafy heads of hair, it’s difficult not to personify them as one of your nonconformist friends.

We saw ancient deciduous beeches, whose siblings in the genus Nothofagus have been discovered in fossils over 80 million years old.

If you find the enthusiasm to tackle this walk during the end of autumn, you will see a magnificent colourscape as the leaves of the beech turn a reddish brown before gliding to the ground."

Nature’s Window, as its name suggests, is a naturally occurring, wind-eroded opening in the bedded rock, located in Kalbarri National Park

Take turns sitting under the window’s wide overhang to marvel at the scenery from this unique vantage point, framed by striking layers of plum and terracotta.
