With over 35 years of diverse experience, Jennie Walker is a powerhouse in business administration, retail, horticulture, tourism, event management, and community services. Her journey has been marked by innovation, leadership, and a passion for creating opportunities that drive social impact.

Jennie’s career highlights include owning and operating Castlemaine’s iconic Bold Garden, a treasured tourism destination celebrated in local and national media. She also holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Information Management and a Graduate Diploma in Horticulture.

Most recently, Jennie managed the social enterprises at WISE Employment’s Peppergreen Farm, a thriving hub for horticulture, hospitality, and community training in Bendigo. Under her leadership, Peppergreen Farm provided employment opportunities for people living with disability or disadvantage while remaining a popular destination for locals and tourists.

Jennie played a pivotal role in the 2023 merger between Access Australia Group and WISE Employment, guiding staff and operations through the transition and focusing on sustainable growth for social enterprise ventures.
Her journey started as a graduate programmer at a major bank, where she developed a knack for problem-solving and logical thinking. Since then, Jennie has excelled in senior roles across local government, state government, and the not-for-profit sector.

Introducing our guest on Episode 28 - Kelli Hewton, Director of the Loddon Mallee Hub for the Head Start program 🎙️

Kelli currently hold the role of Head Start Loddon Mallee Hub Director and have been employed in the Head Start program since 2019 when she commenced as a Coordinator. Originally from Brisbane, Kelli moved to Victoria in 2015 to be with her partner and they now reside in Bendigo with their two dogs. Kelli is also an avid rugby league and tennis fan.

After Year 12, Kelli completed a Business Traineeship at a Youth drop-in centre and worked as a receptionist for approximately 3 years. Her employer supported her to complete a Certificate III in Community Services – Youth Work. Her first role as a Youth Worker was supporting young people that were experiencing mental health and drug and alcohol issues. Kelli then went on to work in programs that supported young people who were incarcerated, young mums, and employment and education programs. Kelli understands how valuable a traineeship is and recognise the opportunities that this opened for her.

Kelli has always had a passion and interest for supporting young people to engage in education and training and the Head Start program aligns with this.
