PNG Citizen Media Engagement Report - Tok Pisin
In PNG, the way people consume media is constantly evolving in our increasingly digitalised world. These changes can help increase access to media and facilitate engagement with important public issues, but some members of society are adversely impacted by this shift.
This animation, created by Al MacInnes for the Media Development Initiative (MDI), provides a snapshot of the recent 2023 Citizen Media Engagement Study by outlining how vulnerable groups are represented in the media, and how geography sometimes impacts individuals’ abilities to engage with issues that matter to them.
A more detailed outline of how people in PNG access media and use it to engage with issues that matter to them is available in the full 2023 Citizen Media Engagement Report: www.abc.net.au/abc-international-development/citizen-media-engagement-study-2023/103176554

‘Vaccine safe, access for all’ is a campaign that tackles vaccine misinformation in Laos.
Noi (whose name has been changed to protect her privacy) contracted HIV six years ago.
When the risk of COVID-19 became a reality for residents of Laos, Noi became concerned about the impact it could have on her health. “At first, I was afraid to get the vaccination,” she said.
Noi along with many others are speaking out about vaccine misinformation in Laos, as part of the ‘Vaccine safe, access for all’ campaign, which is supported by the Australian Humanitarian Partnership (AHP) COVID-19 Vaccine Support Project.
The AHP COVID-19 Vaccine Support Project, through Oxfam in Laos, and implemented by local Civil Society Organizations, is assisting the sub-national health system to increase COVID-19 vaccination coverage in target provinces and their populations. ABC International Development is working with the project to provide behaviour change communications support and expertise.
