Today marks the end of Syawal 1445 Hijriah
And Muslims everywhere have embraced
the spirit of kinship and goodwill
in accordance with the Sunnah.
Throughout Australia, as in Malaysia
Open houses have offered millions the chance to partake
in special traditional feasts of sheer ambrosia.
And so, until next Ramadan, here’s one final hurrah
by way of Salam Fest at a market named Victoria!
Berhari Raya di Konsulat Jeneral Malaysia di Melbourne
A year in and Malaysia’s new Consul General has shown
he’s not just for the boys in the big end of town
but for all members of the Malaysian diaspora here in Melbourne.
This soiree is another of his efforts to get close to the community
And so, to our new C.G. and his team, Salam Eidul Fitri.
D'Kenyang
Three blokes strangers in Malaysia
Driven by hopes of a better life Down Under.
Through sheer hard work, determination and perseverance
Dreams do come true for these trio of Malaysians.
Salam Eidul Fitri, Ma'af Zahir Batin to all our Muslim friends, wherever you are, from SBS Malay.
If, like me, you're more of a grazer
then buffets and bazaars at Ramadan
are places with much to ponder
on the excesses and overindulgence
instead of striving for abstinence.
But these bazaars still serve a purpose
like the one I attended recently
a pared down version
with a sense of community
of kith and kin and lives left behind
back in their home country. / i /
