I know I have been very quiet on socials and on the podcast and abruptly stopped releasing episodes.
At the moment there are lots of changing happening in our life, I am back to full time work as an Exercise Physiologist and trying to find a good balance between spending the time editing episodes, creating content and working my 9-5 so for the moment I will put a pause onto releasing episodes.
I will be back because this podcast is my passion, I get absolutely zero money from the podcast, I enjoy what I do and love helping mums navigate the system so I will continue to work to release episodes but for the moment I need to juggle a lot of other things and unfortunately this means I have to put the podcast on hold...
I will resume releasing episodes, I have many episodes recorded and left to edit so don't worry about that and will hopefully announce a return date very soon once things have settled!!!
In the meantime please keep sharing my podcast and the voice of all the women who have come on the podcast as it is so important to continue to share birth story and the wisdom of those who have been there

There has been lots of things happening for us as a family.
At the moment, I am returning back into a role as an Exercise Physiologist and during this transition period I need to step back from the podcast a bit.
My aim is to continue to edit and release episodes on a regular basis and this is what I will continue to work towards. I will also soon announce when the next lot of recordings will take place so don't worry, Cuppa with a doula isn't going anywhere!
I appreciate your continued support and please continue to share the podcast and spread the word about it, over 50 episodes are now available and there are many more to come!

Having a baby in the NICU leaves marks on you, even long after you and baby leave the NICU. There are triggers in everyday life that can bring you back to certain moments and can bring back emotions that were burried.
You're not alone, if you need help reach out, there is always someone out there who can help, guide you and listen.

In this week's episode, we have Shantelle who came back on the podcast (Shantelle story is episode 5 on the podcast) to tell us in more detail about what a stay in the NICU is like, talk about mental health awareness, the mental toll that having a child in the NICU takes on parents and families and milestones that parent who have full term baby don't know about. An insightful episode and I hope one you will enjoy :)

02/06/2024

Before Shantelle shared her story on the podcast (look up episode 5 to hear Shantelle's full pregnancy, birth and NICU story), I have to admit that I didn't know what milestones for premature baby might look like. In tomorrow's episode Shantelle takes us through that to try and really understand how far these babies and parents come from.

31/05/2024

In motherhood we need connection, we need to feel seen, heard and for people to understand and relate to us. This was especially the case for Shantelle when she unexpectedly gave birth to her son Bowie, just shy of 24 weeks of gestation, missing all the pregnancy milestones and having to navigate an 8-month stay in the NICU.
Next week's episode is one that reflects the strength and resilience of parents who navigate a NICU stay, Shantelle spent 8 months there and helps to set a scene for what it might look like to have a baby in the NICU, what some terms mean, what are pods, isolete, jet ventilator, what the ratio of nurse to baby means and more. An amazing episode for anyone who may be navigating through a similar journey, I send you strength

In this week's episode, Grace tells out how her positive hospital birth didn't randomly happen. She worked at it, she researched, she did her preparation and most of all she knew what she wanted and what she did not want!

In this week's episode, Grace shares with us her positive hospital birth as well as her struggles in the postpartum period. There are some really important topics that Grace shares with us so give this episode a listen !
™️

26/05/2024

Grace takes us through her birth preparation, trying to navigate the public hospital system and really feeling let down. One of the things that Grace did to prepare for her birth was to research absolutely EVERYTHING, anything that the doctor or midwife would say she would research and especially if she DID NOT want to go with what the hospital wanted, she researched evidence to back up her saying "no"
™️

24/05/2024

One thing than Grace quickly learned during her pregnancy is that the outcome of her birth would greatly rely on her taking control of her birth and prepare for it. So she did, she prepared for it, she practiced the hypnobirthing techniques but MOST IMPORTANTLY, she researched everything so that she could map out her birth (shoutout to the awesome Catherine Bell who created the birth map!)

Almost 1.5 years ago, Cuppa with a doula was born out of necessity, I created this platform to help women share their birth and parenting story to help spread their wisdom and learn from each other
This week I released the 50th episode on the podcast and what an episode to celebrate with, by sharing Sarah's incredible 2 homebirths .rhyming.mum
What a ride it has been, from starting when my oldest was only 12 months old to birthing my 2nd baby late last year and navigating the transition as a family of 4 while continuing with interviews and editing. I love this podcast and love the people I have been able to meet or connect with.
Thank you so much for listening, the podcast wouldn't exist without you

"Surely I'm not at that stage" thought Sarah .rhyming.mum during the birth of her second. Despite having a relatively rapid first birth, during her second labour, Sarah didn't feel that she was this far in and was only minutes away from meeting her baby. Plus this time, her sister Chris was here and was the one really encouraging her to get in the pool, but her primary midwife Lynn wasn't, what a turn of events 🤣

It's Monday and that means a new episode is out on the podcast!!!!
This week Sarah .rhyming.mum takes us through her two homebirths, from being set on birthing at a birth centre to birthing at home, Chris her sister who was meant to be the secondary midwife at her birth not answering her phone to almost birthing her second baby on the toilet, Sarah takes us through it all. Birth definitely doesn't go according to a plan 🤣

19/05/2024

A birth really goes according to planned. When Sarah .rhyming.mum was in labour, her sister Chris was meant to come and support her as well as be the secondary midwife for the birth of her first. Nothing went to plan when Chris did not pick up the phone despite the numerous phone calls that Sarah made to her !

17/05/2024

If you've had a homebirth or are preparing for one you might have heard these comments "I could never do it", "I could never birth at home". Well Sarah .rhyming.mum did and to her, birthing in a hospital wasn't an option or something she could see herself doing.

It's a well know fact that kids copy us, well during Kellie's homebirth, when her daughter came to watch the birth of her baby sister, she naturally started copying her mum's pushing noises "I'm pushing like mum" she wasn't scared at all just copying, such a cute thing!

A brand new episode just dropped!!!
This is an amazing hospital and homebirth story from Kellie
Kellie says in her words "for 2 very boring pregnancies, I've had 2 eventful postpartums", listen to her story to hear how she
⭐️ advocated for herself to have the birth she wanted in a private hospital
⭐️ had a 3-day long labour, no pain relief, no interventions and birthed her daughter vaginally
⭐️ navigated her first born being diagnosed with hyperthyroidism at one week of age
⭐️ hired a private midwife and prepared to birth at home
⭐️ birthed her second daughter in the water with her first born present
⭐️ had appendicitis 6 weeks postpartum and had to navigate a hospital stay and trying to express to feed her breastfed baby and keep her milk supply

12/05/2024

Most parents do the heel prick test and never hear anything from it. Well Kellie got a phone call when her daughter was barely a week old, this led her down a very eventful path of having to have further tests to confirm that her daughter had hyperthyroidism, making early parenthood very eventful with her first baby

10/05/2024

I have never heard anyone say they regretted doing hypnobirthing. On the contrary, mums usually say "hypnobirthing really prepared me for this", this was the case for Kellie who after having a 3-day labour, an unmedicated and intervention-free birth, was "offered" the syntocinon to birth her placenta, something she very politely declined. Out came the bargaining but Kellie was strong in her stance and got her way.

In motherhood we hear a lot about "going back" but what if we stopped talking about going backwards and started talking about going forward, embracing this new season that we are in and learning to really discover and nurture this new human that we have bloomed into

Tasmania doesn't need any filters. The colours here in autumn are glorious!
I can't wait to see more of it and really go inland to national parks and reserves.
I'm not a winter fan but I also like being warm so I guess out comes my beanie, scarf and duck feathered coat 🌡🧥
Also hoping to see some aurora australis too while we're here!!!

From pregnancy to motherhood, there is only 9 months but this transition is more complex than it seems. Yes you birth your baby and you become a mum but for us to really feel whole, feel ourselves, find out who we are as mums and embrace this new season of life takes time and sometimes trying to find yourself takes a huge amount of time

3 generations meeting each other, what a surreal moment. Cobi birther her baby boy at home with her now husband and her dad present.
A grandfather meeting his granchild
A dad meeting his son
A mum birthing her son
A son meeting his circle
How beautiful 😍

19/04/2024

After initially going through an OB for her antenatal care, Cobi saw that this model of care didn't align with her philosophy and in hindsight, she didn't feel respected. So half way through her pregnancy, she changed models of care, it's NEVER TOO LATE to change models of care if you feel that you are NOT CARED FOR like you should be.
If you don't feel
🦋 respected
🦋 heard
🦋 validated
🦋 included
🦋 cared for
it's NEVER too late to change care
