Okay so I must preface this with a fun fact; I am the WORST present wrapper of all time. I find absolutely no joy in the process at all. My husband does most of it. I organise the tags and stick them on as he wraps.

Tbh I usually just write the name with a sharpie, directly on the present 😂 and don’t be surprised if your birthday present is given to you in a Coles bag 😂

Anyway now that I have told you why you shouldn’t take my wrapping advice; here’s what I did in 2022. I used my Cricut to cut these tags. It does not take long and was easy enough, I just downloaded a free file so didn’t design them. You can also use the Cricut to write on the leabels too if you want.

The best thing about making your own is you can make any colour or style which suits you. As you can tell my style is “I don’t care about this” 😂

I have pics of at least one more wrapping type I did one year so I’ll share that next.

Nothing compares to how my sister or my friend Gill wrap though. They are next level amazing gift wrappers!

I have many sides of family to see over the holidays and this is what I took to my mums side’s Xmas I think 2 years ago. I didn’t take anything last year as I just stopped in.

For this side of the family everyone just brings something along to make a buffet. I have decided, based on the popularity 2 years ago, I’ll always bring a lasagna.

There’s 3 main reasons I chose this:

1. I am basically Garfield.
2. I can pre make this and freeze if needed.
3. Everyone loved it.

As an added bonus it’s something I don’t use a recipe for, I just cook it. I can listen to an audiobook and just get it done.

One of my favourite things on Christmas Day is a big breakfast. In our family we typically have a late lunch on Christmas Day, so having a big breakfast gets us through till then.

I make it as easy as possible on myself. I either pre-make or buy as much as I can. This is last year‘s breakfast, I think. I bought the pancakes and really only had to cook eggs and bacon fresh. This means we got the lovely breakfast without too much effort.

The whole idea of this is for variety and there’s always heaps of leftover. Almost everything is fine to put away and eat later or even freeze.

Christmas morning is always very rushed. To make it easier on I also use paper plates so that I don’t have to worry about doing dishes. Pretty much once we’ve done breakfast we need to get ready/dressed and go straight away. One less thing to do is always nice!

I usually use my flybuys points to pay for breakfast which makes it free (adjacent 😂).

This is a Xmas tree ornament I made a couple of years ago. This ideas wasn’t mine but I just used thing I had on hand. I just made a box from some random cardboard, I printed an image from Google and used some foil. I don’t think you need specific instructions, it’s fairly self explanatory.

This is absolutely my favorite ornament and essentially cost nothing.

You’ll notice I’m going to share lots of Christmas ideas over the coming days or longer (depending how many I have).

These are all things I have done in previous years and I’m sharing a bit early so you can be organised and use these as inspiration for your celebrations.

In general I aim for very quick and easy to do ideas. I’m not fancy or “aesthetic” for the most part. Pretty much everything I share will be attainable for most people.

Cocktail Frank Wreath

This is something I made for a kindergarten Christmas party a few years ago. It was very well received and also very easy to make.

You just need some cocktail franks some puff pastry, tomato sauce and something green for decoration. As an option you can use egg or milk for a wash over the top.

Basically, you just cut triangles into the pastry and then rolled them up with a cocktail in them. The triangles don’t need to be perfect they don’t need to be even. It’s fine, use as much of the pastry as you can even if you get an odd shape.

Place rolled up franks into a lined, preferably round, tin to help you keep the shape and then pop ramekin in the middle to make sure it fits. That’s where your pop the tomato sauce. Bake it in the oven until the pastry is beautiful and golden.

Once it’s out of the oven, place it on a plate put the ramekin in the middle and fill with sauce and use any greenery that is edible to decorate the centre. If there’s a gap. I used Rosemary from my garden.

You can serve this hot or cooled.

Bao Buns for the kids for dinner.

I got this from EveryPlate as and extra but instead of the chicken breast I used these chicken bites. So this mean took about 5 minutes to put together for the kids.

They absolutely smashed it too!

I made some labels for these containers for our caravan. Took me under 5 minutes to get them done.

I’m not 100% sure they will stay on if knocked as the surface is a bit hard to stick to but we don’t plan on throwing them around too much 😂

Are they wonky? Yes….but as I mentioned my motto is “some is better than none” in this case it’s in relation to effort.

This was dinner tonight. Creamy Tuscan Chicken.

This was a completely unplanned meal. I got a Coles grocery order today and they accidentally gave me a single chicken breast instead of ham (I assume someone got my ham while I got their chicken).

So I decided to use that chicken breast. I followed a recipe but ignored the chicken part of it and just poached it and added it to the bowls with some pasta and sauce.

This is the recipe https://www.chefdehome.com/recipes/926/tuscan-chicken.

While it was nice there was something just not 100% with it, I’m not sure what though. I think it just lacked some depth.

Potato salad

I’ve decided to prepare a bbq dinner for tonight. Mostly because I wanted potato salad 😂

My recipe is basic but my favorite. I usually use more spring onion but only a little bit. To compensate I fried an onion with the bacon.

I used 6 potatoes, 3 big spoons of mayo, salt, pepper, some spring onion, 1 onion and some streaky bacon, 4 boiled eggs.

Peel, chop and boil the potatoes.
Boil the eggs
Chop and fry the bacon and onion

Peel and chop the eggs.

Drain the potatoes and cool slightly.

Combine the mayo, salt, pepper bacon/onion and spring onions in a large bowl.

Add in the potatoes and combine really well, taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

Another awsome Gumbuya World trip, yesterday. This time for the GumBOOya Halloween party!

We had such a good time and again I ran into Karlie there!

They had some great characters, a huge Jack Skellington stilt walker, a huge gorilla and I think the purple monster was from IF maybe, I haven’t seen it so not sure. The characters were very interactive and even dancing around, it was great.

My favorite part was the roaming animals! We got to Pat and/or hold a koala, several snakes, a rainbow lorikeet (which pooped on my mum haha), several rabbits and some dingoes.

There was eerie music, sweet treats, pumpkin carving, rides, games, animals oh and ghost train!

The ghost train was AWESOME! It was the regular train with creepy adornments, spooky music and it went through the animal area! I loved the route!

This is the costume I made, for my 8 year old, for halloween He specifically asked to be Gumbo from Gumbuya World 😂

I used my Cricut (gifted 2.5 years ago) to create some logos for the shirt. I pressed them on with the heat press and they stuck very well, I wasn’t sure they would to this material.

I then used some felt to make some ears and sewed them onto a bucket hat. I supported them with pipe cleaners.

This whole process too under an hour which I think is pretty good.

My son was really happy with his costume and gave me a big kiss when he saw it!

Shirt: $12
Shorts: $10
Hat: $9

Everything else I had at home and have done for years. The sewing needles are from year 7 textiles class 😂

I can unpick the ears to use the hat and the shorts can be used normally as they aren’t modified. The shirt likely won’t be worn for anything but a costume but I can take the logos off with some heat, if I want.

I am very very crap at sewing and used the most basic technique, executed poorly to make this happen. Don’t discount making a specific costume because it won’t be perfect. ‘Some is better than none’ is my motto when it comes to getting things done.

Fake wounds.

These are really easy and cheap to make.

You need glue, tissue, food colour, basic face paints, basic make up and some small paint brushes preferably. This is all stuff I just had already.

I’ve added pictures but basically you glue on a ripped tissue, dry with a hair dryer at this stage or wait until set, use foundation to cover up, colour in the inside of the wound with makeup or face paint or a mix and then use some fake blood on top.

The glue mix:
Pva/white glue and a touch of water, mixed.

Fake blood:
Pva/white glue, water, lots of red dye, a dash of blue dye and the tiniest touch of black dye.

This will be perfect for any Halloween parties you have coming up. This took me about 15 minutes to do so it’s not labour intensive.

Add more tissue in layers for more gruesome wounds. Just set each layer to avoid a soggy lump.

Add some clear lipgloss when your fake blood sets so it looks “fresh” longer.

Dinner tonight. I used a regular meal and added a side dish which I originally chose for a lunch - but just really wanted tonight. I made the bao buns a little differently. Instead of the chicken I just did bacon. Made it really quick and easy. And genuinely so delicious.

The noodles though were not for me. I won’t get those again to be honest, I didn’t enjoy the flavour and the texture also wasn’t what I wanted. I prefer udon noodles for this type of meal. Although the kids loved the noodles so maybe it’s just me!

These are by far the fastest meal ever. BBQ chicken tacos.

I feel like they take even less than the 20-30 minutes it suggests on the card. They are absolutely perfect for a weeknight meal. They are also extremely tasty, although basic.

I have not served up the whole meal. You get 3 tacos each. I pretty much always serve a smaller sized portion and then we go back for seconds if we need it or eating more to avoid the waste.

This is an EveryPlate bundle of 5 meals for 6 people plus 2 lunch add ons.

5 meals for 6 people costs $160 including delivery. You can also add premium meals which costs extra. The lunches vary depending on what you choose. The bao buns are $13 (serves 2), the halloumi salad is $14.50 (serves 4). They have a few other options for add ons too.

I also got the regular fruit box which is $25. I find this is typically the same value as shopping at Coles but usually excellent quality. The “large” item changes most weeks or alternates. It depends what’s in season but it’s usually a melon, pineapple, blueberries or strawberries.

The meal selection has expanded massively since I first started getting EveryPlate. It used to be 10ish meals a week to choose from and now it’s over 30 each week. Most meal choices are NOT premium meals. 6/32 meals are premium for the week I just counted.

What you see here is about $240. I also spend about $25 at Coles yesterday for bread, eggs etc. I’ll likely also get milk and ham mid week.
